The following P2 essay by dd got only a 6.5 out of 10. She's among the lowest in class.

Frankly, I don't remember I wrote that well in P2 or even P3. Standards have gone up by a lot! As a kiasu parent, I need to wake up and buck up. 🙂

Does anyone have a sample P2 essay that got an 8 or 9? I really would like to have a feel of the high standard these days.

Could the kind fellow parents here share some tips on how I can help my dd improve? (Obviously, we all can't rely on school teachers these days... :stupid: )

One sunny day, father and I wanted to go camping. So, they went looking for a campsite. On the way, they spotted a campsite. They were very happy that they have finally found a campsite.

After that, they saw a bear at their campsite. So, they threw their boots at the bear and chased it away. They were relieved that they had chased the bear away.

The sun was setting. So, they made a campfire and roasted marshmallows. After that, they went to sleep.

The next morning, they started to pack and they drove back home happily.

This is my understanding of how all most schools mark. The guideline is to use all the helping words provided. Assuming that the content is correct and if the child uses ALL of it correctly but makes some grammatical errors, she can easily be awarded 7. If the child uses ALL of it correctly but makes a couple of grammatical errors, it will be a 8. 9 is the highest and 10 is an impossible. To score a 9, the child need to inject many interesting phases and describe the events in more details. Her piece needs to stand out from the class in order to get a 9.

My dd told me she had 9 but when she brought back the slip of paper, she was given 10. My guess is that the marks could have been moderated as many did not do well in EL.

Thanks. I’m sending her for enrichment. I had thought I was able to help her, but I stand corrected.

chasingjelly - does your dd go for enrichment?

No, she goes to a tutor instead as I prefer someone who can tailor to the school’s writing needs.

Can anyone share why is it that for the coming opening of MBS on the 1 Jul, only student involved need to go to school. I thought all student would have to attend this happy and grand event.

2818 - it’s the school’s decision…perhaps you should pose the question to the school. the kids who are not involved in the opening ceremony would appreciate the super long weekend (since the following monday is youth day’s school holiday). for those who are involved, it’s going to be hard work this week for them and their parents who have to fetch them to school for rehearsals etc.

I thought for those who are not involved should also have fun for the day.

                      Thank you.

Well, that's because ESM Goh Chok Tong will grace the occassion. *sigh* It's not nice to have school holidays cut short to 3 weeks only. :censored:
