wonder what'll come next...new education minister try out PSLE paper?

skali fail how??? :rahrah:

We can bet if he pass the Maths papers. I bet he'll fail. Reason: DH was very good in maths when he was in school and took part in National competitions (guess his school was placed top or something cos he was so proud of it and kept blowing his trumpet). DH can't even solve simple problem sums. Learning Maths is now so different now. 🤷 :siam:

I think she is trying her best to serve the constituents by resigning her E&Y job.

She deserves credit for trying.

We should give her a chance.
🤷 🤷 🤷 :stompfeet: :stompfeet: :stompfeet:

:rotflmao: okok give her three yrs n repent two yrs?

With so many citizens against her, she had to do something to prove that she seriously wanted to help. Give her a chance and see how she fare.

I think that's a good start - give her a chance lah.

But  If you want to see it more cynically, public service does seem better paying than \"private\" service. As long as you can tolerate a bit of \"noise\", it is certainly a better choice, right? For general discussion only har: I imagine E&Y telling the client, \"The consultant whom I'll be assigning for your company is TPL\" - wonder how client will react...?

SPP protests termination of Potong Pasir town council staff

http://l.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/9tJtgGqh.Z284CyeNyY6dw--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7cT04NTt3PTYzMA--/http://media.zenfs.com/en-SG/blogs/singaporescene/Sitoh-v.-Ben.jpg\">
The Singapore People's Party (SPP) has written to the newly-elected MP for Potong Pasir SMC Sitoh Yih Pin to protest the latter's termination of 16 Potong Pasir Town Council staff.
All except three of the staff were served one-month termination notice letters, and asked to re-apply for employment to Sitoh's newly-appointed managing agent, EM Services, which also looks after eight other town councils.
Under this arrangement, they may be deployed to any of the other town councils, and their employment conditions will also be subject to change, under the jurisdiction of their new employer.
In a letter submitted to the Potong Pasir Town Council's new general manager Ms Sor Chor Yin on Thursday morning, SPP second assistant secretary-general Benjamin Pwee said the change in management was not rational ground for termination to their contract of employment.
Pwee's letter also called for either reinstatement of employment of the staff, or an appropriate retrenchment or severance package.
About 30 members of the SPP also signed the letter, claiming that Sitoh had previously promised his Potong Pasir opponent Lina Chiam that he would \"keep all the staff at the Town Council\", and further, that he would honour his words.
In the recently-concluded General Elections, incumbent SPP candidate Lina Chiam lost the Potong Pasir single-member constituency by a slim 112 votes to the PAP's Sitoh.
On Wednesday, Sitoh Yih Pin said he had not promised to keep the staff and that he had instead told Mrs Chiam, \"Since you asked, I will try my best to see what I can do,\" reported The Straits Times.
He also said offers of severance packages to the 16 retrenched staff were \"fair\" and that he would \"follow all the employment rules.\"
But he also added that severance packages would have to come out from the town council fund, saying, \"The town council funds belong to residents. My priority must be to ensure that the service standards delivered to residents are not compromised.\"
All 16 Potong Pasir Town Council staff have also been handed job application forms from EM Services.
Nine of which had been filled up and submitted to the company to date. The remaining seven are still deciding whether or not to re-apply, given that new employment conditions include a six-month probation.
With all good intentions, I think he mishandled this one :wrongmove: ...maybe he is also arm twisted by the outsourced town council arm ... better do some damage control ...

Saw the following from "Jack" who commented in a TRE (Temasek Review Emeritus) article. Any comments?

"There is a lot of misunderstanding about this $15,000 monthly MP allowance. I asked an ex PAP MP and he told me that the $15,000 is not meant to be a personal salary of the incumbent. It is meant to reimburse and help the MP pay for expenses incurred in performing their duties as an MP. So for example, during Chinese New Year, Chap Goh May or any festive functions, the MP will use this allowance to help pay for the costs of organizing such events. It is also meant to reimburse him for his transport expenses in coming and going from his constituency i.e. petrol, ERP, parking.
In fact, apparently, the $15,000 is not even paid into the private personal account of the MP. It is deposited in a community account in which the MP is a signatory.
Hard working MPs who organize many activities for their wards may actually end up with deficits in some months, They then balance accounts by surpluses in the less active months. Lazy MPs who do nothing except when Election is near, end up with big pots of cash in the account. It is possible they can use this surplus for their own purposes. It is an honor system basically.
Since the $15,000 is not a monthly deposit into
the personal bank account of the MP, one shouldn’t impute all sorts of innuendos about avarice and the like on our MPs -PAP or Opposition."
