LOL - but all in the game together wat. If need to do, means need to do, right? My boy has so far played together with not only his own year-mates, but also with Sec 2, Sec 3, Sec 4 seniors, as well as JC1 seniors.

Need to do ... 😓 Then fail misreably! :imdrowning:

Mep I think he is guinea pig batch. first time sch is offering this. Seniors may have options taking higher music but I think for the programme wise, my ds is on the petri dish!

meiah , now you make me wonder if I should encourage my younger boy (now p6) to join MEP at CHS sec.

Since we are on this CCA topic… how if the kid is never "talent spotted" for any CCA? My P1 boy is the academic type; he is not that good in aesthetics nor sports.

There are a number of his classmates who have joined CCAs. Some have volunteered themselves and received confirmation later on; some have been talent spotted. My boy is still not in any CCA yet.

I have contacted a number of teachers in charge of CCAs, but I am still thinking and discussing with my boy as to which CCA to join, since I know that this is a long-term commitment, hence we need to think it carefully.

          Many thanks in advance.

My opinion, CCA for Primary School is not so important, especially if, beside study, you balance their life with activities well.

Unless, you aim for DSA when they are Primary 6, excel in the CCA in area which the potential Secondary school’s need is the only advantage I can think off.

The school work load itself is already stressful enough for the young mind to cope.

            Just a practical dad.

yup, CCA in primary is not important. But if they are interested in a particular CCA, then yes, do go for it. Usually children will do well in whatever they have interest in.

                    Thank you 😄

However, many mothers of P1s whom already in CCAs now, are truly believe that CCA enrolment is the passport to go the DSA route. I mean, as if it is almost guaranteed :scratchhead:

To me, it is a bonus if he can go to DSA route, but if not, it is the enjoyment and the acquired skills that is more important to me 😄

Yes I notice that our dear Principal stresses that alot these days especially at p1 orientation. However , parents need to ask him one v important question. How many DSA successes are there each year? CHS itself can only take in 30+. Mostly CHS sec takes in students from outside. And there’s only the DSA domains of Sports & CO to apply for under CHS Sec.

Many of the top boys’ schools eg. RI/HCI, etc etc, take in under sports or GEP only. Very few under performing arts CCA. And if so, the 1 or 2 they offer DSA to are national prizewinners or else rare chance. But yes, as you say, it’s good enrichment.

My elder boy, now at sec 2 in another sch, did band and strings in CHS pri. Couldn’t use for DSA bc most schools didn’t have those DSA domains. Even CHS doesn’t have! He applied for DSA under general domain. I suppose his cca involvement in his portfolio shows he has a colourful life apart from academia and that helps I guess.

What’s really important is whether your child enjoys what he does in the cca. Both my older boys are/were in performing CCAs in CHS pri. Both started their musical learning bc of the CCAs. But as they enjoyed, they excelled and advanced well. It would have been ok if they preferred other CCAs. Enjoyment is the key to doing well.

Hope that helps put things in perspective.

If your intention is DSA, better check CHS website what CCA is able to DSA before you think you are cheated and also wasting time epecially if you DS do not enjoy it comes P6/S1.
