Actually imo, to be fair, we cannot expect them to have the same ‘common sense’ that we have because of the different culture and living condition.

      What is common sense?

Let me explain whey I say this. We all live and are raised in a modern country. Most of us grow up in high rise buildings and with all the technologies so we have the ‘common sense’ to know that it is dangerous to leave the window grilles unlocked and that we need to on the switch before we can use any of the electrical appliances etc but not them.

Some of these maids (regardless of the countries they come from) do not grow up in similar environment and some may not even have the chance to come in contact with any of the electrical appliances, so how do you expect them to have the ‘common sense’ in this sense?

You may not agree but I am just voicing out my own thoughts on this. So for fresh maids, I think it is best to demonstrate and show them how to do the chores and use the equipments in the house and yes, probably we have to show them quite a few rounds and give them some time to understand and get used to it because to them, they may not even understand why all of us are so lazy to use all these technologies to help us get things done instead of manual, which is more straight forward - to them. Haha.

        thumbs:
1st didn't complete her contract cos \"grandma had cancer and wanted to see her fave granddaughter marry before she died\" how true was that i don't know. But yes they are extremely stubborn, unable to take criticism and can suddenly give you a heart attack by announcing out of the that they are unhappy or \"family problem\" and need to return home at the urging of their family even if that means to buy their own air ticket. Burmese are very very proud people.
No wonder when i checked thru those ex-singapore bio datas, most of the myanmars did not finished their 2 yrs contract. I almost wanted to get a ex-s'pore but shocked to find out that she has changed 7 employers during her 3 yrs here and now she's back to work again with her 8th employer !

Now i'm trying new Mizo maid. Been with me for a week and surprisingly she understands eng better than my previous indo maid.

moonee, previously when I had problem communicating with my ex-burmese maid, I use to draw out the picture and show her. That way she understands better.

They r Fr north eastern India n they r brown like indo. My friend recommended me as she has one who has b working with her for 6 mths. She commented that she is more obedient than her ex indo/Burmese maid. So I just tried since their salary is lower.
