My understanding is, HCL allows the child additional 1 - 3 points depending on whether it is pass / merit / distinction, that's all. Any child not taking HCL can still enter a SAP school. For example, if a child score 245 in PSLE with merit for HCL will see his score adds up to 245 + 2 = 247 for SAP school, but any other child who score 248 / 249 /250 can still enter the same SAP school even though he may not have taken HCL. The edge / advantage of HCL over non HCL is that 3 points.
However, there are many pupils who struggle with HCL, and therefore it impact the other 4 core subjects, and in the end, the marks for their 4 core subjects suffered as well, impacting the overall T-score. Is it worth it for the child to struggle with 5 subjects for that mere 3 points? In my opinion, unless it is what the child really wants, I much prefer to focus on the 4 main core subjects. I am not saying HCL is not good, just thinking / weighing the pros and cons of HCL along the PSLE lines and the time factor for preparation work and study.
My P3 said she wants to take HCL, so I :faint: Then again, as a parent, I will support my children in their choice, even if it means more white hair for me .... -
Hi, Does anyone have any idea what is the average score for individual subjects in P2?

This is something I believe only the teachers in P2 can advice.
This should be asked in the Parent teacher meeting.
NCPS does not indicate such information in their report books. Instead they have class position and level position for SA2. -
hee hee, actually i forgot to ask during PTM cos its not very important to me - as i think the child's progress is more important than the result. But read in other thread that the average score is good to know, hence, thought of just asking if anyone knows. Thanks VJA for your reply
Will ask the teacher if given a chance to meet next time. -

Statistically speaking, median score would b more useful than average score. It will b able to tell us how well an average child does for the subject.
