My facebook account receives news feed from George Yeo's facebook a/c and it's true about young people supporting him!!! Infact he has so many friends that he burst his friends a/c.
That was like more than 2 years ago. And many of these young people are not just facebook friends. They have met him over meals to chat. That's why so many of them are supporting him so strongly. A group of young people raised funds on their own initiative to support him in the GE.
My teenage daughter told me many times after the GE that she's very sad that George Yeo lost, though she has great admiration for Chen Show Mao. Many of her friends, some of whom have interacted with him personally, said the same. By spending years engaging with young people who are not of voting age, and who doesn't stay in Aljunied GRC, does show him to be a people's person.
I believe his decision to consider running for the Presidency is a result of the number of posts imploring him to reconsider his initial decision. There're at least thousands, if not tens of thousands, asking him to do so on the facebook pages. Compare this to the hundreds in the case of Tan Kin Lian or Tan Cheng Bock.
Of all the potential candidates at the moment, George Yeo is definitely my first choice. My guess is that he is not the candidate the government plan to back. I believe the government plan to back either Prof Jayakumar or Abdullah Tarmugi, depending on whether they need a Indian or a Malay for the post. Both are good candidates.
Personally, I've 3 other very qualified, non-partisan candidates in mind. They are Prof Tommy Koh, Ngiam Tong Dow and Ong Keng Yong. Many have nominated Prof Koh ever since the Elected President was introduced but for some reason, he just won't consider it. Ngiam is one of the very few, if not the only Perm Sec who could stand up to a minister or even the PM. Ong Keng Yong, former Secretary-General of ASEAN, is probably the only Singaporean who had held such a senior position in a regional grouping. Hopefully, 1 of them will come forward. -
Actually me too... :hi5:

I won't vote for indecisive people. I also don't want to vote for people who can't help much for citizens. So left who to vote for?

My personal views of the 3 candidates so far:-
Only Mr Tan Kin Lian has a more rounded view of the role of the President, primarily to protect the reserves. He also added his view on his view on public servitude and the willingness to forgo part of his salary.
Dr Tan Cheng Bock only mentioned about playing the mediatary role between the government and the people.
George Yeo is flip-flopping on his decisions. One moment, he seems decided not to run for Presidential election, the next, he says that he is praying for wisdom. Before he left for Taiwan this Monday morning, he mentioned that he will get his young friend to collect the form if the writ of election is issued, the very afternoon, he called his young friend to collect the form (even though the writ of election is not issued yet, I think). I have the impression GY does not really know what he wants. I would not have the confidence that he would have the conviction to stand up against PAP in protecting our nation’s reserves. No doubt, he may be a People’s President, carrying baby, doing exercises with residents in the park, etc,. -

I second that. No one is forcing him to do what he don't want.
