Hi,
Need some help here as I am confused after reading some post about having given score to perform.
My fren’s kid will be going SOTA for audition at end Jun. According to her, he has submitted a piece for performance (he is in band but I’m not sure of instrument). Is there another piece of music that SOTA will require him to perform as well? He has not received any such info yet.
Appreciate any feedback / advice. Thanks in advance. -
I thought everyone will be given the same set piece. So its not.
What grade is your child right now ?artfever:
my kids got Praludium prelude and fugue no 5 by Dmitri Shostakovich for Music audition.
my kid still struggling it.
the music teacher say equivalent to grade 7 . -
My response is for those taking Music instrument for Audition. As for my daughter, she is doing piano and submitted 2 music pieces to SOTA together with her application. SOTA gave us another set piece exactly one month before the audition.

only Piano; violin and voice will have standard pieces (3rd piece) from SOTA , the rest will be performing according to their own preparation.
reason been this 3 instrument are pretty standard and only by playing standard piece will be able to assess the kids capability. (i think only)
the piece from SOTA for Music (Piano) are Praludium prelude and fugue no 5 by Dmitri Shostakovich
sorry that I cannot make it clear previously. -

:thankyou: Babylion and Artfever, for your feedback and advice. For a moment, we got worried about not receiving the score and info. Glad to have clarified the matter.

Just curious as to why parents are not allowed in SOTA grounds during the talent audition. Anyone knows?

Hi All! I really need your help on this: my daughther will be auditioning for Theater in SOTA soon (if not this year, it will be early next year). May I know does anyone of you have any experience to share with regards to the preparation and how the auditioning will be like?
Thank you so much for your help! -
Finally, the June Talent Academy is over. My DD went for Music.
I am thankful I found much useful information about student life in SOTA and the posts describing past Auditions in this thread. They helped me prepare for my daughter on what to expect for this Talent Academy.
This time, for Music, there was a Welcome Speech by the Principal, followed by a Listening Exercise then a short break before the 15mins warm up and the 15mins actual audition. After which was lunch, then 1.5 hours of Group Activity and finally the last activity, an hour of Writing Exercise.
The 3 topics given for the Writing Exercise were
1.\tWhat qualities are needed to be successful in life?
2.\tWhat the characteristics of an ideal classroom? Provide reasons for your answer.
3.\tDo you think reading is important? Why or why not. -
My DD finished Music and Dancing ; looks like all are better than her. sigh…
anyway, as parent , I already done my best to prepare her and the rest leave it to GOD lah…
Anyway, my kid enjoy the Audition and make some new friends… and most of all look very happy
leeson learnt for me is the kid must have the interest and enjoy it for the art form he/she choosen.
