You are right that based on MOE vocab list, the SWKD is only up to pri 3 level. -

Update... finally dangdang refunded my $ but back to their account and NOT to my credit card account. They are requesting me to order new books ...hmmm...i did not make purchase as i bought a lot of good chinese storybooks at NTUC selling $1.90 to $2.90...(worth $5.90 to $10.00 per book in popular)...not sure if anyone post in kiasu?
My gal born in Sep 06 is at 十五快读报- book 3, chapter 29...hopefully we can finish book 3 by end of this month... -

You are right that based on MOE vocab list, the SWKD is only up to pri 3 level.
Actually I base the vocabulary list on what my son knows, that's why I am familiar with the pri 3 level standard of vocabulary.
Your child should enjoy it, since it's way more stories! -

Hi... can you share with us how you get your girl to read all these chinese books? Did you deliberately set aside some time for chinese shows or reading of chinese books? Do you need to sit down and read together with her initially so as to cultivate her interest in reading chinese books? I have 2 children(P3 and Sec 1). They do not like to read chinese books. I have bought quite a number of interesting chinese books at home but they are not keen to read. So far, I have yet to 'force' them to read because it will cause a lot of argument and debate. I am thinking of whether there is a need for me to set aside some time to sit down and read with them. Their chinese standard is not that weak and they should be able to read and comprehend not too chim chinese books. However, it is more of their bad 'anti-chinese' attitude than their ability that is stopping them from reading.Brenda10:

Hi, so happy that we had bought 10 卫斯理 story books during the Suntec bookfair as those titles are always not available when I want to place the order with dangdang.
DD had finished the 1st book 老猫 yesterday and she really enjoy the story. :lol:
Perhaps the parents here can share on how you get your child to read and love chinese. TIA. -

Ok, I just read the Author's Note in the Front (the Foreward). This storybook should be building upon what has been touched on in the books:laughingcat:
My ordered SWKD storybook have not come in yet leh. So I don't know how different as compared to level 5-7. Maybe I will scan a few pages of level 5 - 7 and you see if there is any difference in diffciluty level?
I hope there are differences, coz both my DS almost completed book 7 and they loved SWKD alot. Everynight sure ask for it.

I've glanced through the whole book. The first few stories are not difficult. These are the 1st 2 stories. Each are 2 pages long:

But from Story no.9, there are some \"new words\", it seems? Bc the story highlights these words at the end of the story. Not very difficult words though.
The last story in the book probably is supposed to be the most \"difficult\".

You can see how there are some words highlighted at the last page of this last story, altho' they also don't seem to be quite unknown words. Only maybe \"zhen\"...the rest not so difficult.
I gauge this to be around Pri 3 standard, based on vocabulary list on MOE website. -
strangely I can't find it in DD as the link doesn't work anymore. The book title is 四五快读 故事集 全彩图 , the book cover is in purple colour.

Dear me ... I just went thru 1st & 2nd story in the SWKD storybook with my son just before his naptime today. Actually the storyline not very interesting. Some sentences are too simple - eg. 小猴子吃人们给他们的东西. I wonder why the word \"食物\" was not used instead. In those few sentences before, already the word 东西 already used quite a few times (as in, repetitive). And I think there was typo error in the 2nd story and story a little not so conculsive. My son actually said he didn't like those 2 stories. ;(

I guess, compared to his favourite 《青蛙与蟾蜍》books, it's not as interesting. These books are also not difficult. But we've finished those already leh...looking for more, still not found anything similar. *sigh*.
