      TENNISMOM:
I became SAHM last year when my kids were already BIG, like 12 years and 10 years. But I can tell they prefer their mommy to be a SAHM instead of flying around here and there for business. I surprised myself being able to adapt to domesticity so easily, fortunately I still have a part-time maid who comes to help me with housework, otherwise I would hate it. I miss my work but domestic bliss is also good. My hubby gives me half my last drawn pay as spending allowance and I get to keep my car and long holidays are not cut (yet) but I find he is now making decisions without 'consulting' me eg changing his car.

      :welcome: to the club

I don't think it matters how old the kids are when one of the parents decide to stay home full time. The kids and parent who stay at home will benefit.

I think maintaining a healthy weight is about food input and energy output as well body metabolism.

I manager to keep my BMI at 22.5 but I still feel a little chubby at the middle. Years back, I told my son ifmommy can hit 50kg, she will wear a bikini for swimming. Aye,... never happen. Now so old, even if I hit 50kg also dare not wear.

i think if we SAHM don't binge between meals, it will help. Just eat 3 square meals. If want to eat more, must exercise. It's all part of the equation.

I agree. SAHMs like myself usually wear very casual. Wear nice nice for who to see? But I make sure I dress up abit and put on make-up whenever go out with DH and DD. SAHMs also don't have to look like 'huang lian po' (pale-faced housewives) right? Must let our hubby know that we are presentable as well as efficient as homemaker. 😉

            Angelight,

How much make up do you use. I'm down to just lipstick. Used to use foundation and powder and blusher but too lazy now.

Somehow, do you guys sometimes feel that as a caregiver, we give and give and it's like our looks don't really matter much. How do you motivate yourself to look good despite all the cooking, chores, kids studies, etc ?

Sometimes I go to brisk walking in the morning as reduce my weight. Then I have more energy then I do some home remedies like apply oilve oil then apply papaya before take bath.I feel fresh and more confident when I go out. It's very difficult to maintain. One month I do then go back the lazy routine. We give more priority to our children studies and house work, but I feel we have to do some exercise and home remedies. My son said he wants skinny mommy.Previously my husband said I don't care, now I care a bit.I find out when I go to brisk walk then I do more active in the whole day and I heard it helps burn more through out the day.But its very difficult to apply.

:goodpost: We are no celebrities...with dietician and personal trainer after giving birth to tone our bodies to Christy Chung's body. Have to handle everything in the house, how much can we dress up ?
I'm down to just lipstick only.

Hmmmm…I don’t put up make-up, maybe it’s because I don’t need to apply in my previous workplaces, so I just don’t now. heehee.

I guess like what dovetail mentioned, we give and give, then when it’s my turn I’m out of giving. For example, I make sure my kids are dressed nicely, tie nice ponytail for DD1, But when it comes to me, it does not seem to matter.

I know it’s unhealthy, we must renew ourselves before we are able to care for others, but my priority is my kids and DH then me.

Before we go out to Orchard for eg, I lay out the clothes for my kids and make sure they look nice. For myself, I make sure I wear something presentable and COMFORTABLE. I make sure I put on lipstick and spray perfume before going out. That is a MUST. I like the feeling of looking good :imcool:

You gals make me feel that I really need to do more grooming.

This year, I keep long hair, after donkey years of short hair. But it's not practical although nice. Most of the time, it's bundled up. Only let it down when we go somewhere far, but this is not often. Sometime I feel we dress up and look good just for screeshots only, you know, for those moments when we meet people we know. I think impression do count and we do need to try to look as presentable as we can.

I also hardly do shopping for myself. Have been using my sis hand-me-downs. It's not that I can't afford to buy, just don't like to shop. Tried to go shopping for myself but always end up in supermarket or bookstore.

Thanks everyone for sharing. We are all in the same boat. We are all doing our duties as a mother and a wife. Like the Bible says, there is a time for everything. We do what we have to do now. After all, what do we want a family for, right?

Makeup - I don't even use lip stick or lip gloss. Glee, gone are the days when I spent 2 hours dolling myself up.

Now I can leave my house in 5 minutes, just need to apply sunblock and put on a pair of frames thick enough to cover my dark circles

Anyway, dh didn't even notice I've aged a lot. He still sees the same 'young' thing he met 14 years ago. Or maybe he has stopped 'looking' at me, I blend in with the rest of the furniture :rotflmao:
