My boy is in PSLE this year, he managed to pass 2 subject with a border line and fails the other 2 subjects in his SA1, I hardly sleep nowadays because of him, his tutor says he too weak… and needs tuition everyday… to cover topics that he did he understand… my tuition fees are bombs every month… but the tutor still says he is weak… I just wonder he can pull through his PSLE??? So worry…

                Anyone can give me advice?

Firstly,,is the tutor good?...if not...then it would be a problem. If he is good, then probably u need to follow more often with the tutor about your son progress. If your son is having tuition every day, then he must understand and able to absorb what is being taught. Having tuition everyday but unable to absorb is no use...Maybe u can discuss with the tutor again as at how u can 'help' to make things work...

Thanks Vlim! Yes, he is good teacher, I would say....the problem he likes to complain my son too slow and could not follow his method especially maths he wants him to do his way but my son just cannot follow as for maths anyone has his way and method as the thinking is different but this tutor insisted my boy to follow as he was saying this is to play safe that my boy will not make careless mistake so he keep scolding and he kept complaining to me... now only a few months to the PSLE, I could not get anyone to teach but the teacher is indirect stressing me by complaining so I was just wondering that with my son's SA's score can he get into a NA at least??? Anyone has an idea....

A good tutor is someone who helps your child academically and raises his/her self-esteem. A good tutor should be prepared to adjust and customise the approach to work best with what your child is capable of.

In this case, it does not sound like the tutor is particularly helping the situation.

Given the limited time, I would suggest you terminate the services of this tutor. It is not a blame game: the problem could be the tutor's or your child's or a combination. For whatever reason, sometimes things do not work out. However, you need to focus on what's best for your child. Perhaps enrol your child in some of the crash preparatory courses for the PSLE.

Most importantly, ask your child's school teachers for help. Really, most professional teachers, especially those teaching PSLE candidates, will help. I am sure there must be plenty of remedial/supplementary classes available at your child's school.

At this late stage, focus on what your child can do rather than what he cannot do. Perhaps sit down with him for an hour or so every night and let him work through his worksheets. Highlight any questions he cannot do and ask him to check with his school teacher or fellow pupils, or you can post here at kiasuparents the following day.

You should also have a realistic assessment of your child's capabilities. No need to be stressed or worried about comparison - everyone has differing strengths and weaknesses.

                      Be of good cheer! :rahrah:
