All About Full-Time Maids

Hi SMH FOREST,
I also did the same to my previous Philo maid and its because she had made me feel confident and can trust her. But sometimes she is just too humble to accept what she think she did not need.
Now, I also had almost the same problem as you with my present Indo maid of about 2 mths. At least you had good reason to terminate her, till now I still feel uncomfortable with her and even more so after some unhappy episode. I always feel that she dont speak the true and very hard to understand her and she seem to keep a lot from us. So how am I going to trust her if she is not open to us.
My previous maid mostly make some mistake on household chores and I just need to remind her and so on as everything is very clear cut. But this maid make mistake that she dont even know why she did it, and it make me feel very disturbed by her attitude, whether she is mentally sound or because of other reasons that she do some silly and unlogical mistakes.
For eg. last night I was in the kitchen asking her to pack up some pork immediately to put in the freezer but I’m not sure whether she heard me or not, she go and do other things instead and I had to told her again…as this was not the 1st time already, I ask her whats wrong and she seem very lost, then she told me that she might be feeling sick and feel cold and feel like having flu, check her temperature, no fever but ask her to stop everything and give her some flu medicine and go to sleep. This morning, she said she is fine.
All these doubts of her really worry me cos I dont feel safe leaving my young kids with her. Moreover I dont feel comfortable with her, shd I tolerate as I also dont want to jeopardise their working life here also, is all these a clear sign to me to change my maid? Need some advice. -

lizuan76, I checked with my maid and she told me that her basic computer class is conducted at lucky plaza. I think the fees is ~$350 for 6 mths course (twice a month, 2 hours per lesson).lizuan76:
She told me is around Wisma that side. I keep asking her to be careful. She told me her friend attend already. Maybe they doing sales talk, let them attend free trial than ask them to sign up the class?
My maid lessons will be conducted at lucky plaza I think. Let me check with her again and let you know. She told me there is a cheaper one at Chinatown but i think timing wise is not ideal. -
Maid off days
How many hours do you allow your maid to be away on her off day? Mine used to go out at 10am and come back ard 10pm. 12 hours. -

I thought the standard is about 8 hours. Yesterday my maid is supposed to come home ard 6pm (12pm-6pm is her off hours from this month onwards for 2 sundays due to her comp lessons).
I give 8 hours.. but normally they wont come back in 8 hours ard 9...tigger88:

Since on sunday we are late sleeper so she go ard 12+ come back ard 9
At ard 630pm, she wasn't home and DH needs to go buy dinner. I called her and asked where she was and if she needs dinner as well. She told me she is on the way home. Scolded her when she was back (at 7pm) as I do not like the fact the she didnt inform me that she will be late. I am ok if she sms or call me when she knows she will be home late but not wait till i call her then she told me she is on her way back. -

My current indo maid also fast. I already let her pray 5 times a day so if she wants to fast, I don't think I can reject her request. Last year when she fast, she doesn't seems to have any problem because housework still done.
Actually, I don't even know if my maids pray... the current one, she will close the door when she is going to bed.. do you actually ask her if she prays?? -
huh? sensitive to ask right? I’ll close one eye as long as the job is done.

LKVM:
Exactly! And yesterday was not the 1st time I scolded her for not informing me.
Yes standard is 8hours but then most of them tend to get late.. but wat irritates me is wat u said they dont tell us they are gonna get late...if they tell atleast we are prepared rather than scold them
I scolded her in front of my kids...and took the opportunity to tell my eldest one, it's only polite to inform parents if they come home late in future so that we won't be too worried.. -

Sigh... i really think the new maids are not being trained nowadays... i don't know if its the attitude, or the training centres never set them on the right course prior to coming here to work...Hi SMH FOREST,

My current one... tell her multiple times (more than 10x)... she also cant remember what something is in english... told her what is Heater since she came... until last sat.. she still look at me blankly when I asked her to help me on it so I can shower my boy... Then, sat, I tried to potty train my boy... so, asked her to help me wash the potty and also place it in the right spot... had repeated potty to her several times on Sat... yet, come Sun, ask her to bring the potty... she still had no idea what it is! :stompfeet:
If your current one is not so bad, maybe u can ask your agent to counsel her a lil?? My old maid is also blur blur and stares blankly in the past... but all these i can tolerate if she can clean and is good with my kid... with this current maid's experience, i would rather have 1 that is forgetful than 1 who is not forgiving and loving towards kids...
Now, for that few mins when I shower or go to the toilet, i feel fearful... cos, for sure, my boy will be crying... and the worst part, no replacement maid in sight yet.... am feeling so helpless now... sigh... :gloomy: :gloomy: -
hi all this computer lesson bluff ppl one…my coll’s maid also said that she has comp lesson…later when check wt the school, found out she din even sign up…

Yes... i am not one to probe about this. But then again, I barely talk to this current maid cos of the issues we had. Didnt wanna correct her too much on the schedules so that I dont get a black face... and also cos' i think no pt since i want a replacement??? Problem is, dunno how long that will take!!!! :frustrated:
