If I am hardworking enough next week (when school reopens), I will try the 'blanko' method...esp since son's school has habit of extracting passages from Straits Times and Readers Digest.
Janet, you are already a very HARDWORKING mummy! :salute: :salute: 加油!加油!

        Mum1113:

thanks sista cwc....anyweas to continue to uphold our due command of respect from our dk (dear kidz), we mummies always have the upper hand, isnt' it.....read through the answers first and chuck one side, so when come to challenging ones, even mummy has no problem in answering and dk will never get to comment \"aiyo, mummy u also dont know ...\" kekeke..

        Mum1113,
You're welcome 🙂 Seriously, I have to try see answer first. My son, quite nice as to he won't say 'mummy also dun know'......but that look on his face  it's 'aiyah, no need to ask mummy, think she also dunno'

Just like when he ask me Maths......he doesn't expect me to always know. To DS, daddy is 'Platinum', mommy is 'Gold'.....mommy cannot answer, ask daddy then 😉

Thanks cwc. Oh yes, you have a boy in P5 this year too.
Yah, DS P5 this year. Starting to feel nervous as I countdown....but again, think a lot has to depend on the child. IF they dun feel the urgency, there's only so much we can do....... that's why, while aiming for that 'DREAM' school, better source for backup schools 🙂

He is kind to you, no need to be verbal just facial expression tells it all 😉

ha ha, I not GOLD lah........ DS thinks I am GOLD only becos' he has yet to learn the topics, so of course I know more than him at this point in time. But once he has learnt all his topics, will probably face the same 'nice look' again. Just a matter of time :scared: Now u know why cannot expose our weakness ?!?!

                hi,

maybe reading newspaper on a regular basis will help… and pick out the words most often used together. for example: prefers… to… , death toll, statistics revealed… etc

This is probably a more effective way to improve from now till exams I think

Get them to read the sentence aloud in their minds. This is especially helpful for children who are more auditory than visual.

I have bought Conquer Cloze 3 for my P3 DS. He sails through the vocab and grammar clozes, but struggles on the comprehension cloze. On examination, he does not understand what he reads as he is disinterested. He is great at decoding words but poor at text comprehension.

He wants to read non-fiction, as he hates fiction, Should I let hoim read non fiction in the hope that him encourages him to understand what he reads. Also, should I cut down on the enrichment books to cfocus on reading.

PS Conquer Cloze books do not give tips on how to approach comprehension cloze questions. Though as one poster suggested using clues, I would add using the 5 whys and the how to help students.

Hello, sorry for reviving old thread, but really need help on comprehension cloze. My DS is having trouble with this section. If he score a 8 or 9 I’m very happy le. Tried the method stated infront (the 8 step or so one), but it doesnt really help much, because DS just don’tget where to find the clues, or what are the clues, and sometimes dun understand the sentence with the blank (like why is there a need to put in another word?) Any help on how to find the the clues,or how to do well? I dont know how to explain why it is the sort of word the answer key says, or how to teach him to score better.

DS is p6 next year, and english/science is not very good, so i’m getting rather worried. Thanks.

I went through some assessment books with cloze as well as past year papers...printed out them and classified under diff themes like 'history', 'animals' etc. But still it's difficult to score well 😢 This is a 15 mark section...really wonder how to get at least 8-9 correct out of 15. Comprehension OE is already a killer and I dare not put high hopes there.

You are very structured; Thanks for the useful tip. When time comes I shall use it. 🆒
