All About Full-Time Maids
-
Hi ZuEn,
I’m guessing she’s wasting the food to spite you - becos you didn’t let her order. If she orders, and waste the food, tell her going forward you decide. Else, fill up her stomach FIRST before you step into a restaurant - then if she can still eat, allow her dessert so it doesn’t look as if you’re ill treating her.
I usually start out with ordering food for my maids. Only after sometime when I’m more comfy, then I’ll ask them to order themselves/buy directly for themselves. It’s quite strange really in my case, becos the maid will be sitting like a queen while I scurry around finding seats (food court), buying food and serving her. -
ZuEn,
Usually we will order the same food for everyone so maid cannot compare. If need to order individual portion, I will let my maid choose as she is quite auto. Mine will not waste food. If your maid attitude is so bad, I will like what hquek has suggested. Either let her eat at home first before going to the resturant or you decide for her in future. -
Hi ZuEn,
I’m like hquek!! Serving the maid while she sits prettily at the table… But, that’s cos’ I think she can’t order herself yet… With my old maid, she managed to learn quite quickly… and not long after, we just let her decide what she wants to eat… and she is also more zi dong lah… -
heh heh SMH_forest, I still remember once at busy hawker centre. We were busy hunting for table. My maid was standing next to one whose occupants were leaving. She idly stood there and didn’t realise to sit down - another family kop that table. To put it mildly, I was upset!!
FYI, it wasn’t that she was looking after my kids (then very small also) - WE had to jaga the babies and try to hunt for tables. -
Hehehe… hquek… we are in almost similar predicament… plus, the maid eats her food comfortably… while we jaga my boy… and feeding him (after he started on solids)… sometimes, its hubs eat first while i carry him, and then when he finishes then i’ll eat my food…

That is what happened to me too.Hi ZuEn,

I ordered and buy food, she sits there.
We will be gobbling down our food or I will feed DD and eating at the same time whiel my maid look after DS. When we took over DS, then she slowly eat. I wonder who has a better life.
Then again, I cannot complain too much lah. She's the best out of the 3. Can do housework satisfactorily and can look after my kids. -
Anyone saw the news about possibility of giving one compulsory day off to maid ever week? Not fair.
I always tell my colleagues that I am starting my other full time job as a mummy after office hours. Already cannot cope and Government wants us to give mandatory day off to maid.
I am dreaming of the day that I can be maidless. I hope to do so when DD goes to Primary One, which is 4 years away. Boohoo. -

I thought it was interesting that one of the maid agencies was quoted as saying it would results in a \"lower quality of life\" for employers. Would it really?
I don't think there are really very many people who would suffer that much if they gave their maid a day off. I understand that there is a small minority with elderly sick members of the family who need 24 hour supervision who would have their weekends restricted if their maid had a day off but surely in these cases all the more the maid needs a break. And most should have someone else in the family who can help out.
All over the world many families have both parents working full-time and they manage to survive so I think we have to be realistic and manage on our own for one day a week.
I agree that it's nice to have a maid 7 days a week but it is a luxury not a necessity for most of us. My maid takes 2 Sundays off and on those Sundays when she is around it is nice to be able to go out to lunch and relax over dessert or coffee with friends while she entertains the children but it's an added perk rather than something we really need. In some ways I actually enjoy not having her around as my children are \"mine\" again if you know what I mean. -
I thought this was already in place? Else why am I paying my maid more each month for the leave she doesn’t want to take? I don’t understand why this is being brought up again unless they are thinking of hammering more money out of employers.
Yes, every family is different. My maid finishes her chores about noon and then ‘retires’ to her room to do I dunno what (read maybe). Late afternoon she’ll come out to help prepare vege and meat for dinner (she don’t have to cook). After cooking, she’ll wash up. By 7.30pm or 8, she’ll go bathe and then back to her room. I see her lights out by 8.30pm. This has been her and my previous maid routine for the past 3 years.
She’s not asking for day offs, but taking her as an example, I would wonder if her life is that difficult to warrant day offs. In fact, the ex-maid used to take naps even (no wonder at night she complain cannot sleep) until my son innocently told us that he saw her sleeping in the afternoon (he was to take nap, but ended up someone else is in dreamland). -

When my kids are older, yes, I do not mind giving my maid off day every week. But with 3 pre-schoolers and another bb on the way...I really need my maid to help out (especially on weekends).
