Its either we are from a different era, or that your parents are more well-to-do.
I remember my lunch money is 20cents cos we brought sandwiches.

well deardear07, you must be very very young (or very very rich)! 😉 During my primary school days, I had 50cts/day as allowance....a bowl of noodles was 20cts, drinks cost 10cts...still had money left over a a packet of snack (the multi colored rice cube snacks).

anyone here from my era?? 🙂 🙂

I am probably before your era. In 1981, a bowl of noodles was 10cts, drinks 5cts and my daily allowance was 20cts. I cant save coz the remaining 5cts will be spent on tikum, iceball or marbles.

              im nt vvv young...

beginning when i 1st started primary sch, i only had 20-50cts a day, sometimes my mum wud prepare some food for me to bring to sch. when i proceeded onto P3, my sis joined me in the sch and her pocket $ ballooned to $1-2...abit jealous...so in the end to be fair, i got the same amt as well...by P5/6,i was getting $3-5 for my allowances.

so i tot nxt few yrs, with the inflation and current food prices, it wud be pocket $ of $5-10 instead of just $2...this is hw i derived my monies.

              sori for sounding silly...

                Hi CMM

I must be from your era. $0.50 is my pocket money. $0.30 for noodle or rice & $0.10 for drinks. Primary school in the early 80s. I usually get more cause one of my neighbor take me as her own daughter & I usually ends up with more than a dollar per day. 😎

I think it’s a good idea to check how much the food cost in the canteen before deciding. Looks like a dollar or 2 sounds rather reasonable.

I remember I was given 1 dollar or more when I was in P1. By P3, I was able to treat my classmates drinks. Also, kept going to the bookshop to buy cute cute stuffs. Something parents might want to keep a look out, heh heh…

Ha, I still remember the key chain I bought when I was in P1 cost me 60cents.

                    money and children.

                    money and adults

after a while you’ll realise that there is little difference.

here’s a thought: how successful are you in handling your household budget?
and how successful are you in managing future savings and expenses.

                    i’ve realised a few things:

                    1. its not easy
                    2. its a holistic kindof thing - we need to be consistent with how we handle money in the family as a whole.
                    3. external factors need to be managed very strictly

there are just so many variables like TV influence… the way we spend money as parents outside when we shop/eat…

how much money to give our kids? i say zero.

                    pack food instead. healthier.

Oh dear...in our household, 2 generations of wives held onto the husbands' purse strings...considering that i have 2 boys....perhaps time for me to lax abit? :? 😄

my P1 gal likes to use the money and buy stationeries. We alraedy have so many pens, markers, rulers , erasers at home and she is still buying…I heard it is common esp P1 since its the 1st time they have the freedom to spend their own money.

after a few occasions, she started telling us the ‘gifts’ are from her friends, etc…its really hard to control them…
