but how to be placed on waiting list ? I was under the impression (from my friend) if you don't apply to the school, the chance of appealing may be low. So if I withdraw, is it not the same as never apply before, thus, lower my chance of appeal ?
As far as I know, this is not true. Last year, my fnd registered her daughter at her hb's primary school during phase 1 and concurrently put her name at the preferred school's waiting list. She called a call somewhere in Dec 2008 and was offered a seat. No relationship or special talent, just pure luck and within 1km that's all! -
Any updates on RGPS & St Margt numbers?

Very surprised that as of yesterday, 30 Jul, Kong Hwa still has 11 vacancies available for phase 2C, whereas some of the neighbourhood schools are already in balloting situations.

I believe parents that fall under this category will withdraw if informed by the school unless they are really bochup or really dun have an alternative (which is strange to me). By doing nothing, you really need a miracle.
Dizzyguy, some people are just (1) clueless, (2) boh-chap or (3) boh-bian. Some do not have alternate choice so they just leave it be. Some are waiting for a miracle to happen. Some are hoping that the school would put them on higher waiting list priority if they stick to it. And some just dont buy the 'distance' thingee at all, no matter how much u explain it to them...dizzyguy:
Why people don't withdraw ?
If there are 50 spaces left and 70 registered.
Among the 70, 60 are under 1KM, why doesn't the other 10 withdraw ? -

But this group of people still exist every year... -

Not sure about 1 km - 2km though. Hope there is no need to ballot for < 1km...

Saw at least 3 couples registering this morning. Hope no more than 6 will apply for within 1km today. Else will have balloting within 1km and those 1km - 2km will have zero chance. -
