      Laughing-Hyena:
Will enrol my boy under 2C in Innova Pri. Any parents doing the same?

I've heard mostly positive comments about this school. Good character building practices too - very important.

We were in the same situation last year when we were looking for a school to register our daughter. Initially, we wanted a Catholic school for our girl, to help nurture her values, and since we’re Roman Catholics. Unfortunately for us, there isn’t any Catholic primary school in Woodlands. We tried at La Salle (phase 2B), but since we live more than 2km away, we were unsuccessful. We live very near Woodlands Ring and Greenwood, the more popular schools in this thread, but we ended up choosing Innova to register for 2C. It was a bit of a risk since as mentioned it's a new school, has not built any PSLE track record yet, and no info I could find in this forum. But, we also believe that the school administration would pose this as a challenge for them to prove the school’s worth. Plus, my husband and I were telling each other we will not just let whichever school take care of moulding the grey cells and character of our daughter. We should play a primary part on that, as well. That’s why we’re not overly concerned that she should end up studying in an unpopular school.

So far, we haven't regretted choosing Innova for our daughter. We attended the Orientation last year and it was very organized. Their website is informative and updated. My daughter’s form teacher is very easy to correspond with via e-mail and SMS and gave helpful feedbacks during our 1:1 session. There are topical reviews and Continual Assessments. There’s a Chinese Language Modular Curriculum Approach System for P1. The school sets up remedial lesson sessions (for English, Math and Mother Tongue for P1) to help students who have areas of weaknesses. I believe they hold these remedial lessons up to P3. They conduct Focused Group Discussions with parents, conduct surveys--one of which resulted to changing school hour from starting at 8:00 a.m., from the previous 7:45 a.m. I don’t have any complaints so far, with our daughter, in terms of her English and Math skills. I couldn’t properly assess her Chinese Language skills as my hubby and I don’t know the language. Her CL test scores have greatly improved, (from 40% to 100%) though, and her CL tutor does not say anything that we should worry about, so far. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that we really have chosen the right school for our girl. I’m so looking forward to how the school will perform during their first PSLE.

P.S. I’m a newbie here, and allow me to thank Chief Kiasu for making this site, as it was very useful (and, still is) to us when we were selecting a primary school for our kid.

Innova has 178 applications for 158 places at end of 2C, so I guess balloting is required. Can anyone advise, where to find the info on which group has to go through balloting, i.e. 1-2km, >2km? Thanks.

The applicants for Innova was about 173 on Day 1 (I registered at about 4.20pm) but was told the staffs were too overwhelmed and no time to register all applicants to send to MOE by 6pm deadline. That's why on Day 2, jumped to 200 applicants. On Day 3 morning, those > 2km were called up to withdraw their applicants, so the # dropped to 178. No chance to ballot at all. Well I'm one of them 😢 At least, they are kind enough to call us to withdraw our applications in the morning, thus allow us to register at another school before phase 2C ended at 4.30pm

Sorry to hear that… yes, you’re right, I went at 2.30pm on Day 1 and ours was the 162 application. That’s why I was surprised to see on MOE’s website that only 53 had registered for Day 1… I suppose many parents who went on Day 2 thinking that they had a good chance actually might have gotten a rude shock!

I think you can call up the school...or they will call you by now if yours needs balloting..yours is within 1km or 1-2km?
