Yearly NUS High takes in about 180± applicants. Approx 90% by DSA and 10% reserved for after PSLE score.[/quote]

For those keen on NUSH, here are some information for sharing.

My DD is in current 2011 cohort of 140 which is inclusive of PSLE posting (111 B +29G). Their max intake per year is 170 , DSA 90% or 153 COs and a fixed no on WLs. Only 10% or only 17 placing thru PSLE posting. Last year COP 264. DR Hang emphasised intake are primarly DSA COs/WLs. Those on WLs are as good as COs since a large no of NUSH COs opt for other IP schools.

The yearly cohort size has been between 140 - 150 for the last 3 years.

Phankao, cosy environment indeed. Only 20+ per class. Are the kids randomly assigned to their classes in Years 1 & 2 or are they assigned based on ability?

Random, I think. Bc they still have subject banding within the class for some subjects like Mother Tongue and Math.

Had the same experience last year, very well organised. What impressed me most was the registration was run mostly by the students.

Anyway, good luck to your ds!

Wow! Thousands of Applicants! Very Stiff Competition.
How Many Vacancies R there for S1 next year?

          Very challenging indeed!

Anyway, for DSA, I think they only offer around 90-100 places.

It is challenging everywhere. Actually for DSA, gals have a better chance than boys. Number of GEP gals is half that of boys, so GEP gals will have better chance to IP sch. Mainstream gals also have less competition as number of GEP gals are lower, so more mainstream gals will get DSA offer from popular gal's schs too.

Regardsless how many thousand are the number of applicants, the "competition" is the same. This is because the entry ciriteria for the DSA is determined and set by the school. If the student meet the criteria, they will be offered a place. It does not mean that if the number of applicants equal the number of vacancies then everyone will get in. There is no compulsion to fill the vacancies during the DSA phase.

This is not the same as S1 posting where the vacancies are filled according to merit of PSLE ranking, which determine the "cut-off" point for the cohort of that year. Therefore if the candidate does not succeed at DSA phase, there is still a chance at S1 posting, even when everything remain unchanged.

I was wondering when RI will call up the applicants for interview. My DS's classmates went or GAT, but my DS has not received notificationn for interview. Some classmates who had below 80% still did not receive notice for GAT. Does anyone know if RI would reject GE kids, without even offering them a chance at GAT n interview?

I guess no. All GEPers will be called up for interview. The reason for those who has not received notification for interview or GAT because they have submitted their application at a later date. Some of my DS classmates have not received any news yet.

Strange thing is my friend's son who applied under sports domain and handed in like few days before dateline also completed GAT already.
