Following the thread, does anyone has any idea about rental? A friend is thinking of putting her son in SJI is thinking of buying a house near the house and rent out the apartment after that.
Are there any guidelines surrounding that? Is it something do-able?
It is more tedious to change your address on your IC now. The police will require some proof. But such proof are not difficult to obtain eg. credit bills/ utilities bill with your name on the address. On the other hand, if you are renting out the place, it’s not appropriate to have your address there as mails may get delayed,etc… -

A19: Yes. The new home address can be used provided that you are able to produce evidence from the relevant authority that you have committed to the purchase of this property. what this means is that if you purchase a house near the school you are supposed to move in and not rent it out to someone else.
as for ic address. you have to produce proof of the address for the dept to change it on your ic. if you don't have proof they will mail you a letter at your new address, you are then supposed to bring that letter back to them and use it as proof of your new address and they will change the address on your IC.
be careful how you go - trying to 'trick' the system might back fire and your child will suffer the embarrassment of being transferred out. -
Typo error. They are trying to buy a apartment within 1km of the school. Then rent out the house while they still continue to stay in their current flat. Wonder if there are any issues with this.

read the moe paragraph again. if you buy and use that address for proximity priority, you have to move in within 2 years. Otherwise its contravening the guidelines. -

My husband and I have different addresses on our IC. Is it necessary to have same address on the ic when registering for primary one? Does any one have such an experience? Please share. -

Otherwise, just explain to the school if they ask. Make sure you give the real reason. They should accept it if it is reasonable. -
hee hee Chief.....we are legally married. :lol: But sticker on his IC was torn off due to wear and tear. So neglience on our part. Tried to explain this to the school, but insist to have the current address. This is despite the fact that our girl's BC has our current address! Implication is school will use daddy's address which is more than 2 km. :?
But MOE website never state both parents address must be the same..... So just trying to find out more or is it the school being particular. -

Why not quickly go to Immigration to make a new NRIC? They should have your actual address in the records, so it's a matter of getting them to issue you a new NRIC without changing any info. I think it costs about $60 (not sure). Takes less than a couple of hours. Hi, Neighbourhood police can help you update the address. They just paste the sticker over it and it sb pretty fast if their system is not down.
Probably just explain to them the situation. On the other hand, do bring down documents to prove that your hubby stays in that address. Eg. the PUB bills, credit bills,etc… that shows his name and the address. Make sure it’s recent as this is a new ruling by them before they change your address for you. -

Thank you for your advice. After a sleepless night, I'm happy to report that the IC 'discrepancy' has been rectified. As of this morning, chances are still fairly good. Hope it continues this way. Lesson learnt - Don't overlook the slightest detail. -

Anyone knows how long I need to stay in a rented property before and after registration and balloting?
I'm thinking of renting an apartment just before I register and ballot in Phrase 2C.
Afterwhich once my girl gets into the school, we can move back to own home again.
This works to be alot cheaper than buying a property near the school.
Anyone can advise? -

Is anyone aware of how many days prior to P1 registration we sould live in a particular address whih is with 1 or 2km range.
I read at couple of sites regarding the buying of property but if we want to rent a place, how many days prior to registration should we be living the house.
If anyone knows the details, please let me know. -

That was what someone had told me a few years back. Then we wrote officially to MOE. The reply was : \"the address must not be a temporary one.\" When we sought further clarification from them as to what \"temporary\" meant, they said \"If you are renting a place for purposes of registering for a primary school you should stay there for the full 6 years.\"
We thought the reply was rather absurd... such a requirement was not stated anywhere in the MOE guidelines or FAQs under P1 registration.
I do not think there is a minimum requirement period prior to registration. I understand that most schools just look at the address on the IC. They don't look at when that address was changed. -
But is it true that we have to live for 6 years once we rent near to the school…

Yah, I really wonder if the school will actually check subsequent to that. I wonder if they actually have the resource to do such tracking eg. the child got in becoz of within 1km and now the address has changed,etc…

School may not have the means to check every kid, but they may look into complaints from other parents. -
Being kaypoh, I checked with MOE and got a response today. A very detailed one too... so kudos to MOE and the staff involved for customer service.
Essentially, other than what is published on their website (ie. the regulation on using the address of an uncompleted property), there are no regulations pertaining to how long before or after P1 registration that parents are required to rent or stay at an address. If you register with an NRIC address, your child \"should\" stay at that address for the duration of Primary school, but it is not mandated and you are allowed to move. If you do not intend to stay at that address for long, you are expected to inform the school during the registration process so that the school will assign the correct priority to you during balloting. It's pretty much an honor system. Though you are allowed to move subsequently, if you are unable to provide a reasonable explanation as to why you are doing so should the school finds out and inquires, the school retain the right to reassign your vacancy to others in the waiting list.
There have been cases as highlighted earlier in this thread where people were caught red-handed taking advantage of the system without proper explanation. The punishment is severe and embarrassing for the parents and children involved. Again I say that no school is good enough for parents to resort to such means of getting a school for their children.
