sorry, stupid question here... are there cases or history of P1 failing final year exams & thus staying behind to repeat that yr :?

i haven't heard of anyone repeating P1 yet. But i've heard of P1 students being sent back to Preschool at the beginning of the year because they just could not cope with P1. They do not even have the fundamentals of ABC 123.

I've heard of a P1 student who had to repeat P1 because he had a medical prob which rendered him unable to sit still and concentrate. Really pity the boy bcos he just couldn't accept repeating P1 with classmates younger than him. It's a self-esteem thing.

Thanks Janet, for your prompt reply.

your daughter is fine, ok - she doesn't face any learning difficulty. Constant daily revision will help her to remember facts well.

i am thinking ... so far, how effective are those 'Allied Educators' in the primary schools ? what kind of help do they actually extend to help kids with dyslexia, speech delay, mild autistic, in mainstream?
They are there like counsellors to assist to mediate situation, but I do not think they conduct special lessons for the kids. That is why for kids with special needs, there might be need for parents to source for external help. My fren who has 2 special needs kids, send them to Dyslexia Association for additional lesson and engaged private tutor too. Parents of special needs kids can also apply for exemption for certain subjects if needed (eg. Chinese).

My gal’s class has a boy pretty weak, so the teacher has put 2 stronger kids beside him to help him. The teacher has also spoken to the mum and the mum engaged tutor for all subjects. She attended tuition with her boy, learned and reinforced his learning. So far showing improvement.

P1 only. So the tutor can cater to all subjects for the boy. 3 times a week + mum's coaching for homework. I think he is also attending an external Chinese course (either Berry or Eduplus, can't remember).
