Hi, I am a newbie and I am very happy to join this community. I have an
only son who has entered secondary 1 this year. He chose to take Higher
Chinese even though he did not take the subject in P6. His command of
Chinese is not that good so I am worried if he can handle the subject.
He is quite enthusiastic about it so I do not want to discourage him.
Is there any parents who are in a similiar situation as I am or has gone
through such a phase and are willing to share your exprience with me?
Thank you. :?: -

Welcome pinky. Since your son has interest and think he can do it, let him be. At worse, he can always switch back to normal Chinese if he can't cope....He chose to take Higher
Chinese even though he did not take the subject in P6... -
Thanks Chief for your advice. Looking forward to more advice and reply
as to how I can help him besides the ‘mandatory’ tuition classes. -

Hi pinky, the criteria for doing higher Chinese in sec sch is either a A* in CL or at least a merit in HCL in PSLE. So dont think you need to worry. Thanks Chief for your advice. Looking forward to more advice and reply

My girl also didn't take HMT in her primary school. Hence, when she knew that she could take it in S1, she felt so honoured & chose to take up the offer.
I was so shocked when I heard that she failed her first class test for HMT.
I felt worried & asked her to seek advice from her MT teacher on how she can improve on it.
Well...her teacher asked her to tell me not to worry so much as the test was a means for them to guage the students' standard so that she can adjust her teaching method to guide the students.
Hope to see improvement soon

Hey mummies,
Don't worry so much, and we can't show our worry face to the kids, as they can sense it. Be supportive, get them a tutor to guide them and enquired from school or MOE about the syllabus and prepare them indvance. That's all we can do... If they give up, give them a pat and tell them no problem, they have so many other options and courses to attend in the future...
