Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools

St Andrew, St Michael......you may want to try talking to the school principal directly.
Firstly, St Michael does not exist anymore. It is now St Joseph's Institution Junior.
Secondly, why do you recommend these 2 schools to kiasuparent09 when he clearly stated that he will be registering in phase 3? These 2 schools are always totally filled by the end of phase 2C. -
Hi Big Devil, Thanks for the help. As I read through the articles in this very site, the feeling of being in Phase 3 is utterly that of being a hopeless case as such, i am appreciative of any logical approach to save time and guide me to the proper direction. I still prefer not to conclude that going international school is the only way as i simply cannot afford one but at the same time, would also like to put my child in a proper school.

Being at Phase 3 is not a hopeless situation. It's just that schools available at this phase are not as popular as others.
Some schools are more popular for historical reasons. Others are more popular because they seem to be able to produce more top students or has gifted programme curriculum, etc.
But really, it boils down to whether the child can cope and how driven he is. I know of many average children from top primary schools who do not perform very well at PSLE. And i have come across many from neighbourhood schools who have excel academically.
If you are supposed to be applying for Pri 1 this year, there is nothing much you can do at this time to change your status from Phase 3 to other phases.
Take heart, the schools available at Phase 3 are not a hopeless situation. But you probably have to accept a co-ed school rather than a all boys' school. -
at the end of all the pri 1 registration phases, and your child is in a school that you dont really like (school A) , you can approach the school of your choice (school B) and see if you can be put on the wait list.
but let your kid start his pri 1 in school A first. who knows he might be happy there and things are not as bad as it is.
and should school B has a vacancy, you can always transfer your kid there.
for me, even if i know all the places have been taken up, i will still try my luck knocking at the doors of the schools i like. -

Oops, didn't know St Michael is now under St Joseph Junior! I recommended the 2 schools to kiasuparent09 in view that these schools may be more accepting to foreign students with same religion, and even if no vacancies, can sometime work at transfer later.Pen88n:

Hi!
What do you mean by a \"proper school\"? :scratchhead: All schools are under MOE and follow MOE's rules and guidelines.
Like what other forummers have mentioned, if you are registering you will be involved in the coming P1 registration exercise, you will just have to observe the vacancies left after Phase 2CS, and choose a school with vacancies left that is nearest to your house.
Secure a place for your boy in a school first, before you think of other things.
Recently, one of members here, also a foreigner, tried to look for a school for her son (P1 this year), but couldn't find any school with vacancy. I am sure you wouldn't want to end up in this situation. -
Hi all, I just joined this website. I am a working mum of 2 boys and the older is from 2006 batch. I just bought a hse that is a stone throw from gong shang. sad news is that the parent volunteer has closed and now i am stucked with only phase 2c. i would like to appeal to MP but not sure if it helps. anyone has any thought?

r you in time for RC route?
dont think MP can help. what basis can you appeal on?
my boy is also from 2006 batch. my hse is also a stone's throw away from a popular school. despite trying to get into their pv scheme for the past 2 yrs, the school turned me away citing no jobs available for pvs. so now i'm stuck at only phase 2c. will i be able to appeal to MP too? don't think so. the school asked me go RC route. -
Can I ask all for advice? Do you think it is silly of me to apply for Henry Park or Fairfield methodist when I stay around bukit merah? Thanks.
