Absolutely no affliation...but I would think most in the top few classes will make it to RGS anyway.

Woah, I thought all the while there was an affliation, maybe that explains why RGPS has places available after each phase.

      Many reasons:
      1. No affiliation at all
      2. Academically strong and deters some parents who think their kids may not be able to cope
      3. An all-girls school - so those with other gender siblings not an attraction
      4. Many choices of all-girls schools in the same area such as MSG and SCGS and both not as academically driven.
      5. To some, the traffic jam at hillcrest is also a deterrant
      6. Only partial single session, i.e. P1/P2 in PM class

Of course there are many pros that outweigh these but I suppose the biggest deterrant is the perceived stress in the school since it produces outstanding results year on year and no affiliation to any reputable secondary school so it is very merit-based. Having said this, the GEP students can secure a place in RGS if they can meet a min. PSLE score.[/quote]with all these cons, RPS still has itz vacancies filled up anyway, right?

For me, the biggest problem is the distance. I do not want my girl spend 1h on the way to school. That will be a cruel to a child just 6 years old.

so i say richer ppl staying ard the area get into these top schs,n get ‘better’ education, better results means can get better tertiary education n better jobs. Better jobs cud mean higher pay n thus, get richer on top of their parents’ inheritances…vicious cycle…

the poor must b really top performers in sch n get good/high paying jobs in order to break out of the ‘poor’ cycle…im nt sterotyping bt this really applies to majority of Singaporeans…

Last time RGPS was next to Henry Park. When it moved to Bukit Timah, people said the sch wants to attract rich men’s kids. Rich men have the money to send their kids to enrichment. Higher chance to get good results, thereby boosting the sch’s performance. So in actual fact, it is not the sch’s effort, because teachers don’t teach.

Many of my friends went to RGPS to register for their children on last day.

may i know what's the compelling reason for registering on the last day? sorry for missing out the obvious 😉

                      Hi

It is not fair to say that the teacher in RGPS don’t teach. My daughter has been in RGPS for 3 years. Due to her serious illness in the earlier years, her development is slightly slower than kids her age. The teacher there has been wonderful & try to help my daughter out & advise me that she will soon catch up with her class mate. When my daugther remedial class for a subject clash with another, the other teacher try to re-schedule so that my daughter is able to attend both remedial lessons. I have even heard of a teacher helping out another student as the child’s father was missing.

There are some parents that I know while doing parents volunteering. The children there comes from all walks of life. Their parents can be rich, average or poor. Their parents can be a minister, lawyers, doctors, manager, executive, technician, secretary, clerk etc all with the aim of getting the best education for their kids.

The biggest problem is actually the distance. The stress level is not perceived. RGPS don’t have CA. They have topical test instead. Papers are generally more difficult than neighbourhood school. The difficult qs are usually the last few questions in the papers.
