Actually he missed the DSA when he was in P6. He wasn't interested at first. By the time he finished prelim, he suddenly told me that he wants to go to SST. A few of his friends applied for DSA but got rejected or put on waitlist. I explained that the DSA exercise has passed and I wasn't sure if they would take in more students after PSLE. To spur him on so that he would work hard, I told him I would write to the school to enquire. To my surprise, they replied that there would be another intake exercise after the PSLE results are announced. We applied and he was offered a place. He was so happy that he kept smiling and smiling for a whole week.

Just curious, what made your boy change his mind and want to go for SST? Do you by chance know what was the highest and lowest scores for the intakes?

My boy is really hoping to get in there after his PLSE next year after visiting their website since we missed the open house, but no one I personally know has heard of the school. I think my in-laws are going to be very upset with our choice if her does make it. :stompfeet:

He said during DSA it was still too early to start thinking abt it. He only started considering when time drew nearer and everyone started discussing which school to choose. We didn’t even go to the open house or listen to any talk so the only info we gathered was from the website. When we went to submit the application, we had to submit his exam results from P4 to P6, plus the PSLE. So they weren’t looking at PSLE only. They didn’t officially announce the cut-off point but my son said his classmates are around the 250 to 260+ range.

I have many ppl asked me why I send my son to a ‘not so recognised’ school. Actually the school and the teachers are well-qualified and have many years of experience teaching in mainstream schools. I have confidence in them. If only they offer 6-yr programme instead of 4 - that would be ideal!

          Hi,

Thought that the school does not admit students after the PSLE. Admission is strictly by DSA. Ahhh … will tell my friends to try as some hv missed the deadline.

Yah, it will be great if it is a 6-yr prg.

The website specified that intake is strictly thru DSA but probably they still had vacancy after the exercise so they did the post-PSLE intake. They are very selective - many of my son’s former schoolmates weren’t offered a place despite being from banded classes.

During the interview, I was asked about my son’s interests, what he likes to do, his behaviour at home, etc. I was so nervous answering the questions because I was afraid of jeopardising his chances of getting a place. It’s like going for a job interview for him.

Their new campus will be ready end of this year and probably will move there in 2012. I did ask them whether the intake will increase after that but they said they will still maintain the same number of places. So they may or may not conduct the post-PSLE intake this year. Hopefully they do because there may still be pupils who are keen but missed the DSA.

Are parents interviewed during DSA too? Or just for those who applied after PLSE results were released?

Hopefully in time, they’ll extend the programme to a 6-year one.

really depends on their enrolment strategy. For NUSH, think the # of vacancies left after DSA is VERY small so those who get in via PSLE usually had extremely high t-score coz competition is great

By the way, how does this t-score thing work? I never quite figured it out. It's upon 400 for 4 subjects in the report book which is different from this t-score thing.

Sorry but I'm blurr in this area. 🤷

Yah, how come the parent is interviewed???? So many questions some more?

I was not interviewed, nor was my son interviewed when he applied for SST last time and got CO.
