I think be it branded/popular or normal primary school, as long as parents keep an eye on the kids' work, they will be alright. In a class of 30-40, no matter how good a teacher is, parents need to be involved.

Parents have to do their part to follow up regardless of the school kids are in. This is definite. Honestly, those 'branded' schools' principals/teachers have to thank the parents for coaching the kids so as to keep up.

      So true

        Hi,

I will be enrolled my DD under P2B - Nan Hua primary (>2km), South View (1-2km) or Yew Tee Primary (within 1km).

Which school shall i enroll? Deep inside my heart, i prefer South View.

        Sigh!!

After reading all the post, felt like a really REALLY lousy parent. Didn't do PV, no alumnus, didnt move to near good sch.

My twins r registering for P1 this mth under P2c. I m staying in woodlands. Wat sch should I choose? All average only?

Feeling Very depressed.. Twins..any wrong move, and is multiplied by 2..

If only I hv join this forum earlier.. Any advice is most welcome..

P1 registration is really just the beginning. Getting into the right school is important, but what comes after getting into the school is MUCH more important than getting into the school.

If you choose an elite school, it will almost be like YOU as the PARENT are also going into the school. The stress level on YOU to ensure your child \"performs\" is much higher. That is why elite schools retain their titles - because parents push their children to be one up against the rest of the cohort. You will definitely be drawn into the race because it will show in your child's results.

Most parents prefer their children to be more independent in their studies. But it is difficult to do so these days, because of the advanced training and help that many of the other children get from external sources, or from their parents' incessant coaching. Very few children are mature enough to know how to learn by themselves.

As a parent, you should now be focusing more on planning your strategy on how you would want your child to grow as he/she enters P1. How to achieve a balanced approach so that your child can continue to enjoy precious moments of childhood while still attaining the standards expected by the schools? That is a much more important question than getting your child into the school!

          :goodpost:

I think it's not so much as the standards expected by schools but rather standards expected by the examiners who set the PSLE papers.

I think sometimes even the teachers are weird out by the questions in the paper.

I wonder what are their KPIs?

Saw that we hv to bring immunisation records at registration. Is the health booklet sufficient? I checked the HPB website and also asked for certificate. Saw that short form is used so also dun know if all jabs hv been given.

I'm a great believer on gut feel. That was how I chose the school for my DD1 this year and I will be under phase2B too.

You are P2B for all 3 schools?

It boils down to what you are looking for in a primary school and whether is distance a factor for you. From past history for NH and SV, there's a possibility of balloting, and it's within your distance.

If you are keen on SV or NH, since you state these 2 schools first, I suggest to monitor the situation after Phase2A2. Check with the schools on the 2nd day of P2B registration, if there's a chance of balloting and for which distance. If there's balloting and you still wish to go for it, do keep in mind that for the last 3 yrs, there's balloting for YT for <1km for P2C.

If YT is your backup, you might be facing balloting for P2B and P2C.

All the best and keep an eye on the time, don't be late for registration if you are going to monitor how many applicants for P2B before making your decision.

Chief has made several good points here. Stress from P1 registration is just the tip of the iceberg. After the child gets into choice school, REAL work begins.

When the child goes to primary school, YOU the parent will feel like you're going to school too. If the child is in an 'elite' school, YOU the parent will be sucked into the rat race in coping with the expectations from the school.
Don't expect the child to be mature in doing 'research' for their projects, score well in their Math & Science CA/SAs by themselves without any help. Ultimately, the parents will be the ones doing all this, as well as all the art work or the poor child won't be able to sleep till midnight.

Chief, you have made a very clear point here! :goodpost: And this is the reason why we parents here at this forum to share & learn!

We see the anxiety level rising as we move on nearer to phase 2B and then 2C and then the 2C Supp. It is a very tough decision for many parents to decide,\" Which is the BEST school for the child? Which school is the BEST in my area? That BEST school is will definitely produce the BEST result for my kid?\" Well, all these boil down to Chief key point above,\"How to achieve a balanced approach so that your child can continue to enjoy precious moments of childhood while still attaining the standards expected by the schools? That is a much more important question than getting your child into the school!\"

I chanced upon this forum in year 2008 when like some parents fail in phase 2C and later move on to phase 2C supp (which the school till falls under some comment: seems this school is ALWAYS \"under the radar\" school in Jurong West area) \". Very encouraging from Chief when I shared about the school and I must say that my DD1 is enjoying school so much that I tell myself,\" Her happiness is the most important!\" 😄
