i was wondering are those european made violins are hand-crafted or factory made like those fm china? Lately, my DH came bk from biz trip in japan, enquired from a music shop there, their violins are made fm germany bt not sure if are hand-crafted, price range fm s$400 (1/4 size) to $900 (full size). Izit reasonable or cheaper than those selling locally?
Is synwin hand-crafted violins made in china? We are looking around for a full size violin for my ds, was really confused with the choices. Are synwin hand-crafted violins comparable to those make in europe in term of quality and sound?
Any recommendation for full size violin, my ds is gr4 now. We thought of buying him a better made one compare to his current student violin.
Another probm we have, his current strings (those $2 string) are often change by his tchr but it gt tarnish about half a yr later. i offered to buy better brand one but his tchr say it will also be tarnished. Any one have same problm as me? -

My ds uses Thomastik Vision Titanium strings. It sounds really good and last very long. Have not seen it tarnish. But then again, these strings are quite expensive. Just bought a full-size set for S$74 as a spare set for him this week.

My ds dunno use which brand but I also haven’t seen his strings tarnish yet. Don’t think it’s the $2 type cos got once bought some for him and they cost much more. So far never got half a year change string. He only changes them when they snap.

Maybe his are Dominant Strings? That's quite the most commonly used. Not cheap either. -
Possibly. But if he sends his violin for minor repairs at the luthier then I dunno what they will use if they replace the strings. Cos he can't be bothered to find out, grandparents says all strings are the same and I'm not there to ask!!
I have seen the Thomastik ones but I don't think I bought those. Likely the Dominant ones. -
Dominant is also under Thomastik brand

:slapshead: I'm equally clueless!!

Tks. Think i shd try dominant strings. Btw, any other more averagely priced brands? My ds teacher say the string tarnish could be due to my ds sweaty palms which he tend to hv when required to play for a longer period. I was hopping another brand of string can last longer.
