when is the most appropriate age to send our kid to enrichment class, like berries or phonics? my gal will be in N2 next year but sad to say, her chinese is not good (partly our fault coz we seldom speak at home) and sometimes even refuse to speak in mandarin when we try to talk to her; she’ll tell us :"no…speak english, please!"

besides berries, any1 tried tien hsia?

Not surprising at all. Any sort of structured lesson considered enrichment. Could be gymboree, baby jumper gym, kindermusic, shichida method. They are have programs for under 2. Might not be the acadamic ones but focus on the brain development and gross and fine motor skills. 😄

Little Neuro Tree, Growing Up Gifted…

Personally, I believe the best "enrichment" for this age group is family (social) interaction and lots of opportunity to explore their surroundings through hands-on activities and play.

Agreed! Go for those enrichments that include parent.

Both my girls started Shichida when they turned one. Tried Little Neuro Tree, but didn’t like it.

I agree. Best \"enrichment\" is from parents. At this age, shower them with lots of attention. Do activities together: art, singing, etc. You can do some \"enrichment\" like asking the child to go and get 2 oranges for you for example. This is to encourage them to count, show them. Of course you teach them 1 to 10 by singing, etc.

Both my kids have never attended any special program. Both are in gifted programs now.

Hi, mothers…I am wondering is it really necessary to start my 3 yr old gal on enrichment program. I actually wanted her to have "free time" as I want her to have a nice childhood. But after seeing so many people bringing their kids for enrichment programmes, I begin to wonder and sometimes confused.

My girl is attending childcare, is the programme sufficient enough?
                      Greatly appreciate your input.

                        Hi Princess Ariel

Actually all depends on the parent, cos nowadays all very kiasu… haha… I started mine on phonics at age 4 years. I personally think that it is important that the kid can read as early as possible so that they can start their learning journey ahead…
