Myanmar maids

So I guess end of the day, we got to settle for the best of the worst. I had my fair share of experiences too.

My girl was brought up by many Indons in the past and they were rather young and respectful. My mum was in control and very strict. My dd was very easy to handle and loved all the maids… all were rather good in housework but i find Indons rather revengeful and tho my girl was obedient, some did try to abuse her, not becos my girl did anything wrong but they tend to take it out on her when my mum scolded them… think Ive called the police about 5 times when she was young. Problem with Indons, cant tell when they are offended, also afraid if they have that mad streak in them, they prefer to run away than to tell u they want a transfer or go home.

I had 6 filipinas, not all was good but no real big trouble except homesickness and some didnt like kids. The only thing I appreciated was if they didnt want to work for my home , they will tell me straight to my face instead of running unlike the indons

Mynmars… totally untrained, takes a long time to c that common sense comeout.
tends to slacken after a while, rude n answers back. blur like sotong but not for long, after sometime they too get caught up with H/ps and fashion.The fresh ones are quite empty headed to the point of being stupid. Well not all are like that but majority of the new ones are. ive heard of cases whereby they will use the knife to threaten another maid if they get into n argument.
Need to b mentally prepared for a lot of frustration frm them when they are fresh.

My no.3 Burmese maid left palm size patches of blood stains on my husband’s clothes. And I also found a hand towel in her cupboard filled with blood stains. Don’t know what she was up to.


When we took her back to the agent, she admitted that it was blood! Claimed that it was nose bleeding. highly doubt it cos the patches are too big.

So Burmese maids can also come up with shocking issues.

Like some of you I have had Indon, Philip in the past and now I've got a Burmese for 3 months now. For the first month, it was hard work on my part to demo everything since she cannot comprehend much. But she was enthusiastic and polite. Seemed to learn fast and well. Says sorry whenever she made a mistake.

But after 1st month whenever I find her not following instructions and doing ridiculous things she is fast to give excuses (in slightly better english) and hardly says sorry. Repeated mistakes, forgetfulness, not keeping floor clean, bites open plastic packaging instead of using scissors and etc etc...I am so exasperated having to repeat my instructions.

Talk about blood stains she stains during her period but doesn't bother to change/wash her shorts until I told her to!!!

The plus point is her cooking is quite good, can play well with my daughter.

May I ask if Burmese maids are generally like that - unteachable and lack common sense (due to their age I guess)? I am thinking of changing but whenever I think of training maids all over again I cringe and am forced to KIV. :frustrated:

Yes. Same thoughts. When I think about trainning maids all over again, sometimes I choose to close one eye unless things get out of hand.

Local employers really have the shorter end of the stick. No govt support, no redress against unprofessional maid agencies that do not ensure maids properly trained. Even when maids cannot arrive due to passport problems and a friend of mine wanted to cancel after a few failed attempts, friend had to bear the cost.

Sadly to say but yes and the agents know they have the upper hands so some agents even conspire with the maids to suck more money out of you.

Lamber: I m afraid so , majority are as u described. Mine is exactly like yours, first month hardworking… started to become lazy when the school holidays strted. She used to rise at 5.15. I told her she need not wake up too early during sch holidays, so for tat month she will b up at 7.20 or 8am…work started to slow down that whole month, I tot that when sch reopen she"ll be bac to her regular routein but no improvment… oh yes, she will not say sorry even tho shes been taught and very forgetful and unrependent. Ive had young Indons b4 and being young, they tend to remember instructions well.

I realise t young burmese are not really forgetful but they tend to shut their brain when we speak english. When they come in, they tend to make an effort to understand and remember but after doing the same chores everyday, they become complacent, I think they choose not to concentrate when we give instructions and i notice they are living in a world of their own.
I was dissapointed with mine today cos she finished more than half a container of Anlene tat my mum bot less then 2 wks, half a bottle of large pnut butter and 6 pkts of milo. I left town for a week and bot 3 pkts of korean spaghetti for her to cook for my dd… the 3 pkts are missing n my dd never got round to eating it…she claim she never ate it but its missing and no where to b found.
The last time she stole food she admitted cos it was obviouly her, she says I dont steal money but i did steal food. Gave her a lecture but tat obviously didnt work. Food cost money to buy and its the same as stealing money.
Told her no more chance n if she continue Im gonna report her real age to MOM and also to the police for stealing… too much! imagine sending gowing up children to spore who are always yearning for food. Really MOM should not be lazy n just issue w/ps without looking at the girl or her photo.
Im on the verge of changing her but just like u Im so tired of training all over again n bringing in another stranger. I will let this pass for now but will not hesitate if she stresses me again. Anyway I always believe character can never be changed, so its now a question on how long im gonna put up and swallow her nonsense.
