MrsCKS feels her alma mater would do MsCKS a whole world of good. Who am I to say otherwise? Yes, logistics a bit harder, but sometimes, it also make the whole experience more meaningful.
it is a good school so you need not worry i guess. but are you sending them to school or do they take school bus?

            hi Gin,

compare 'Li Fang Lan' Maths workbook on model qns with Intensive Maths Drill workbook which you mention - which one is easier to start off with, for P1 qns on Modeling ?

To ínterupt', you may want to check out EPH's Simon (Eio?) 's assessment book on model drawings. Remember that the questions are very easy and it's a good way to build foundation. Not sure if there's P1 books. My eldest did the P2 book I think.

Oopsie u mean cannot invent own model ah? I know some tuition teachers have their own way of teaching n their own methods and expect the kids to use their method. So I thought can invent own model.

Hi! I hv a 6yo DS too - in dilemma with school options and seeking your valuable advice...

My DS is a gifted child but has some social skill / behavioural challenges (strong independent thinking/reasoning) that will guarantee piss off \"no-question ask/intolerant\" teachers. We were told that he needed a compassionate school over a \"academically-competitive\" one and preferrably with smaller class size (~20 students to a teacher) to render him a positive emotional support. This is like reaching for the sky given our PS class size is 40! Do you know of any schools that are compassionate/patience and emphasize the holistic wellbeing of the children beyond the rat race of top rank/score? Doesn't academic performance come naturally if children are learning in an encouraging environment? BTW, we are in P2C and willing to move as long as he is in the right school... Thanks!!
Hi you might want to post your query here, on the gifted child thread, to get help quicker.

              http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=2353&hilit=gifted&start=610

Given the time left for P1 registration for this yr, I doubt you are able to move so quickly near to your school of choice.

The only suggestion that I can think of is to speak to your child's P1 form teacher as well as the Principal, to explain your child's situation.

                  Hi Rivevae,

Like what SAHM Tan said, talking to the form teacher would be helpful? Would be good if you have the dr's report, so the teacher knows how and what she can do to help. Sometimes the teachers want to help but are not sure how best to.

For p1 and p2, there are only 30 students or less. Only at P3 do the class size increase up to 40.

At ds1's school, they had 20+ students only. I think there were only 24 or 26 at the start of P1 and only increased to 29 later on in the year when there were a couple of new students who transferred in.

So I guess if you want fewer students in the class, you cannot choose a red hot school with long waitlist. Those schools would definitely be full to the brim and will have 30 per class, once the no. falls below 30, they will offer the space to the next on the waitlist.

The other thing is, choose a school without exams for P1 and P2 so you can ease your boy into schooling. By p3, I guess he should be used to the system? I feel the current situation whereby my son has no formal tests in P1 and P2 helped him explore his interests more because he didn't need to prepare for tests and he was allowed more leeway and freedom in class to speak up and talk about things that were, erm, sometimes irrelevant to what the main topic is.

The teacher would be patient enough to listen to him and let him voice his opinion. There is no syllabus to rush or a fixed deadline to finish the topic by the test date, you see. So the teacher would not be that stressed.

Finally, in recent years, in most schools, I have seen many heads place their most patient, loving and kind teachers to be form teachers of P1 classes, because they know this is the 1st year in Pr school, and the kids need lots of guidance and moulding. So I think you should be able to find a school you like near where you live. No need to move in a hurry yet (unless you live in Sentosa Cove :).

:thankyou: Thanks to those who have provided me with the great advice! Home school...thought this would impair his social skills/community living. He needs to value and appreciate differences/diversity around him.
