Parents/Kids Behaviour in Supermarket/Hypermart
-
Sometimes it’s not just a kid’s behavior in a supermarket. How about adults who poke and prod at fruits, or who take things out of the freezer and leave them at some shelf somewhere when they don’t want it. Frozen food/meat left out to thaw and then put back into the freezer when found by staff can be fertile grounds for bacteria.

I agree. I've often felt that Borders books are badly abused. They get worse treatment than those in public libraries. Books, as with all properties shd be treated with care and respect.
The state of books at Borders due to over-browsing is a bugbear of mine too. I don't browse at bookshops. I take a quick look at the synopsis and if I like it I buy it. But the problem is the books are sometimes so thumbed through I don't want to buy them from Borders. I've always wondered why Borders doesn't shrink wrap their books and if need be leave a browsing copy out. Makes it so much better for serious shoppers like me.
In any case, Borders have started to shrink wrap their books, and sometimes leave a book unwrapped as browsing copy. Thank goodness for that. -

Yes... I don't like this either. What's wrong with choosing tomatoes by placing them on the top of one's palms for a thorough eye examination. What does pressing the poor tomato help one do? -

For scenario 1, I’m okay with it - as long as there is the intention to pay for it. I was in foreign lands and saw someone drink from a can, and then leaving the half drunk can there…woah lau…not paying, please don’t drink (this was an adult who did it). sorry I didn’t go up and tell him off - foreign lands plus I can’t speak that language.
Then again, we don’t do that just becos we don’t need to have our hunger/thirst satisfied immediately most of the times.
My bugbear is with those who leave their kids unsupervised in bookstores. Kids generally don’t know how to take care of books. I see adults treating bookstore like library…take a huge mountain of books and then happily retire there to thumb through the books. In some cases, when they are finished, they don’t put back…instead it’s left strewn on the floor where kids purposedly/accidentally step on these.
Was at Borders one day when I saw the store staff informing a mum that her 3y/o (thereabouts) had shredded a book and she would have to pay for it. The mum didn’t monitor the child and she tried to push off the responsibility - but ended up she had to pay. Was silently hoping that from this she’ll learn that she should monitor her child at all times…Singapore is not that safe a place to leave a very young child on her own. -
bravo to the staff for insisting the parent pays for the damaged goods. what cheek to try to push off the responsibility.

I agree. Bravo to the staff who insisted on payment.

I am ok with scenario 1. So long as the parents and kids, eat, drink, pay and clean up. Don’t leave wrappers or tissue papers behind in the trolley.
For scenario 2, trying out the toy with adult supervision is ok. What bugs me is when parents let the children try and try and try without supervision or let the child ride that spanking new bicycle in the store after they have decided to buy it. As for book stores, if they allow browsing, then they should have designated areas maybe with selected books for browsing. Should not allow people to just take the books from the shelves and plonk themselves all along the aisle blocking everyone’s way.
