Heyya cantbearit2, didn't read you for sometime already..

I suppose you have been busy. :snuggles: Nice review
shared up there babe. 🆒 Am also impressed you
could remember how our birthday walks are done.
Last time in our centre, we get the mom/dad/both
to do the bday walk together with the child. We'll
take videos and pictures for the family to keep 2!
Yes, been pretty bz wif DS3. Many trips to & fro KK hospital. He's on his way to recovery so IM more relieved now. IM so impressed wif e b'day walk tat i thot parents interested in a montessori curriculum might wan to noe. 😉
        buds:
We collect information of the special moments of
every yr (of the bday child's growth n development
to complete a brief history of the child. It's a slower
walk but a meaningful one. There were times I had
to conduct the birthday walk a few times when there
were a few bdays in one day. A wee bit giddy..
All the children will be really quiet as the ambience
gets really calm n cosy...listening to my story abt
their friend and how much they've achieved and
how much they've grown.. and how much they
have been loved..by the people around them.
Another colleague would be showing pictures of the
birthday child from birth to her current age now. It
is a hit with parents n children alike. Very special.
This is wat ey do in CS montessori too. juz tat i leave out e details. tats y it's gd if we could make a trip down to see for ourselves & talk wif the person in charge. Of course, we shld read up a bit b4 we visit e ctr otherwise we will not noe wat Q to pose.
In my circle of frenz, those who can afford usu opt for Pat's sch hse or LV (some branches r v ex). ey r aware of montessori but not enough knowledge 2 noe e \"power\" of a true montessori program. I was oso one of em.
BTW, i have sign up for e monte grammar workshop recommended by some parents on tis thread too. Will share on tis thread aft i attended e course (not tat u need to noe  ) for e benefits of other like-minded parents like myself.

I read about the birthday walks. I think it is really meaningful and sweet too. Good for the kids to reflect, look back, and also understand how far in life he has journeyed. Nice. I have no kids in Montessori yet, so none of them have done the \"walk\". 🙂

Hope dd gets to experience it in future...
Me too!!! My DD1 had missed e chance but hope DD2 & DS3 will get to experience it. 😄

            Hi mummies…

I am new to this forum. Just to share my disgusted opinion on a Montessori school in Bishan. I shall not disclose the name of school.
( It has Montessori programme as well as before and after school care, in a bomb shelter)
I called to enquire for my eldest son ( 8yrs old) for their before after school care as well and my 2 other children ages 5 and 3 for their Montessori Programme.
The lady who answered the phone was so RUDE! this is what happened:
i called in the morning- the rude lady ( whom i realised is the principal!!) shouted loud and said that she is busy right now in a meeting! asked me to give my number, and i gave. Waited for 3hours,she didnt call me back. So i decided to call her again just in case she didnt get my number right,.
wow. here comes the shock- she again shouted so loud that i have to take the phone away from my ear. she said- hey, i told you right, i am in a meeting, i call you back! i was shocked… is this the way a principal talks??
Since she doesnt want my business, fine. i will not call her anymore! so angry!!
This centre is very near from my place, and since i have 4 children, i thought it would be easier for my helper to send my 3 kids to the school at one go. But i definitely will not sign up with them anymore,. so disgusted by her behaviour!!

I remember you mentioning the hospital visit in another thread. PM me how he's doing, if you don't mind sharing... :hugs: The Montessori Method in itself is impressive. I learnt so much more than what i learnt in mainstream training. I feel that i didn't get a chance to fully explore the depths of the methodology even till today. The memories i have of the joy i had teaching children using Montessori are priceless and ones i hold onto so dearly. The true memories of joyful teaching. The birthday walk also embeds the basic concept of the revolving of the Earth and how it takes one big turn to the point where the child grows another year older.. i was impressed myself when i first learnt how to conduct the walk. :please:

Correct. That is why i can never over-emphasize how important it is to do the ground work.. to read.. research.. visit.. talk to teachers.. sit in trial classes whenever possible.. and then can you feel the nature of the individual centres. Hearing abt it and reading abt it is not enuff.

Well now you are empowered, cantbearit2. :celebrate: Pats and LVs are strong in mainstream in their own way. I have iterated this before... each centre has its own merits to its programmes. They are special in their own way... it still boils down to a matter of preference and what you want for your child. Of course, budget plays a big part of that choice as well.

It's fine to still hear abt it. Mebbe she runs a different version we're used to doing? Learning is an endless journey, i am still learning everyday. :snuggles:

Talk to you again soon, cantbearit2. :imanisland:

My daughter is now in N2 at Josiah Montessori (Simei) and I really love how she progress in school. She can now read 3-4 letter words, can do additions, can read chinese and so on. I really didn’t expect that she will progress this fast thinking that she just turned 4. I don’t need to get enrichment class for her since the whole program itself is enough.

Sori to hear abt yur bad experience wif a montessori sch. If u have read fr e beginning of tis thread, u will realise tat indeed not all montessori sch r alike.

I have oso come across a mainstream preschool wif a principal who puts me off. I find tat as an educator, anger management is somethg u have to handle well especially wen dealing wif young children.
E word \"montessori\" has been used loosely in lots of preschools (as i have found out). Tats y it is highly encouraged to do some reading on our part & go down personally to talk to e person in charge. We will have to assess if e preschool is truly suitable for our kids. As Buds always say, different strokes for different folks. Hee... :rotflmao:
Keep looking & IM sure u will find something acceptable (can't say perfect cos I have not come across a perfect sch 😉 ).

                      Hi mummies,

Does anyone have reviews about Dynamic World Montesorri at East Coast Road? They claim to be a full montessori. Fees are rather exp…about $1700+/term, after adding in the phonics, speech and drama enrichment etc (which actually is part of the 4hr daily program). On top of these, if you want to add in keyboard and dance, thats additional fees, but is after the 4-hr program. Quite exp after adding all up, so which to know if this centre is really that good. Spoke to the centre manager; she speaks well and answers all my questions well, but also sounds quite like a sales pitch.

Can I also know what’s the difference between a ‘full’ and ‘partial’ montessori. Thanks for sharing!

I waited for 2 years before I got the slot from this school. It's worth the wait coz we are really satisfied of her progress. The wait list in this school is quite long. What I really like is that my daughter can read and speak chinese even if we are not chinese. I love the Montessori Chinese.
