Hi, my daughter is studying in SCGS now. If you have any questions, I will be pleased to answer them as truthfully as I know.
Good luck to all who wish to get their daughters into this school. -
i’m a newbie to tis forum.
my gal is 3yos this year and i wud wish she cud get into SCGS. I read and found out tat no PV is required. we stay in the west and believe we have no chance unless we move. pls advice other possible alternatives, thks very much. -
Indeed, it will be quite difficult to get into the school unless you are an old girl or stay near the school, judging from past years P1 registration trend. And the school does not offer any PV scheme.
When my daughter was 4, I called up the school to offer my services. I was advised to fill up a form, stating the kind of services that I could provide. I later talked to the school registrar and found out that unless I can offer a very specific kind of service that the school cannot get from parents of existing girls, it is very unlikely that they will enlist my help. I was advised to shift near the school. An alternative I guess is to be a grassroot leader.
Eventually, I did not register my daughter during phase 2C as there was literally no chance for girls staying outside 2km that year. However, I put her on waiting list. She was called up to sit for entrance tests sometime middle of her P1 and was selected for an interview. Subsequently, she was offered a place to enter P2. And we took it. So, this could be an alternative for you to consider if you are OK with school transfer. -

Hi Mandarin,
Just secured a place in SCGS :rahrah:
Where did you buy the SCGS uniform?
What you like/dislike about SCGS?
Is SCGS adopting Stellar program for teaching and heard that there is no textbook with this stellar program?
If that is the case, are there any references/books for revision?
Thanks in advance for your kind advise.Mandarin:

Most schools will sell the uniforms during the not-to-be-missed school orientations. Just don't forget to bring your kid alongHi Mandarin,

To answer your second question first, I am not aware of the Stellar Program in SCGS. I believe this is only for P1 and P2, and my daughter is in P4, so probably does not apply.

As for what I like about SCGS, my daughter is very happy there, I guess that is most important. The school places emphasis on all aspects of education, not just academic and/or sports. She enjoys a well-balanced school-life of learning and fun. The teacher makes it clear that every girl has to work hard. There is also a wide variety of CCA and enrichment program available. In particular, my daughter often raves about the Weds extended recess (1 hour) where the school often organizes various celebration and activities during that time. The range of post-exam activity provided is also very interesting. My daughter attended soccer in P2 and synchronized swimming in P3. From P3, Lit is introduced to them in a very fun and engaging way, including making crafts and staging their own version of play. Kids with higher ability are also given the opportunity to work in various projects, according to their strength, eg journalism for those strong in English and mythbusters for those strong in Science.
As for what I dislike, I find that emails to teachers (esp those who are not my daughter's form teacher) are often un-answered. There is also a very frequent change of teacher in a particular subject last year, as a result, my daughter had 4 different teachers for 1 subject and she rapidly lost interest in that subject. Fortunately, this did not happen this year, and her interest is back.
One point to note, the school has revised the PSLE cut-off point for affiliated pupils. It has always been 200, it will be 210 for 2010 and 220 for 2011. -
