Even at boarding, some parents insist on helping their kids to pack up every weekend, some going so far as to bring in maids to help. On compulsory overseas trips, some parents tag along, stay at the same hotel etc, just so they can be near their precious just in case..
How to help pack up when parents not allowed into boarding school?

But nowadays, there are so many perverts out there, of course some parents tend to be more careful and try to protect their kids. Last time dun have so many perverts? Think p1 boy been molested at school toilet, etc.

The point is, at what age would you let your kid off by himself/ herself?
You mean go around or what? I let my elder boy take public transport by himself at pri 3. But the others only at pri 6...basically due to their personality.

Maybe it's good for boys to join uniform groups like NCC or NPCC. Then they get a feel of training , punishment , foot drill...

good idea and maybe have a 2-3 day camp in actual army barracks during the year end school holidays to get a first hand taste of how army life is like

Actually the trainer my son went to has this type of bootcamp. He holds it in Pulau Ubin and make the clients experience what bmt training is like.

Ha ha....now I worry & guilty. My P5 DS has been pestering me to let him go home himself after school everyday. It's either a 15 mins public bus ride + 7mins walk or 25mins walking.....with a damn heavy schoolbag.

Maybe you should try to let go as he is P5. My P3 boy did it this year. We started with him taking a bus home by himself and the maid will wait for him at the bus stop. Then it progressed to him taking the bus home and walk home by himself. He was very excited and proud the 1st time he did it independently. My P4 girl is still alittle hesitant to do so by herself....

Frankly I was initally alittle worried eg. will he look out for the traffic near the school as they have to cross the car parks to reach the bus stop, etc...???? But when he took the 1st step, I guess yes it's time for us to let go otherwise they will never have a chance to learn to be independent. There is always a first. I recalled taking SBS bus by myself from Marine Parade to geylang when I was P4 everyday.

A certain school allows parents to go in. The other boys sharing the room were rather happy because the maid tidied up the whole room. :siam:

Ha ha....ferrying kids is part of my Job description as SAHM.....with lesser job scope, will I get pay cut?
Just joking.....yah, will let him do it sometimes.......think the son quite independent, should be ok. At P5, think he's matured enough liao.....when I first started being SAHM a few years ago, used to panic seeing all those children dashing and behaving so rowdy outside the school. So told myself I'll do it till P6, but come Sec school, he will definitely have to go via public transport. I also dun want DS to be soft soft, MAN must behave like MAN yah πŸ˜‰
