I feel that P1 is a bit too young to be on his own. Maybe from P4, the children are more mature and that is a better age to train to be independent.

Kids never keep their books underneath the desk. When I was a student decades ago, we never do that too. Don't forget there are lots of trouble -makers in sch, they may throw away or damage the books.
For upper pri students, they have lockers, so they can keep some books in the locker.

not all schools practise keeping books under desk. Some schools uses the classrooms for CCA so the desks are shared with many parties during the wk.

Then, as usual, I searched KSP for good advice from other parents, and found this \"NS Formulas\" under the Market Place category. It is supposed to be a boot camp / course with instructors to toughen up children / teenagers to prepare them for NS. Now, in addition to enrichment courses for academic subjects and CCA's, there's also enrichment for National Service. Amazing!

Yes, ns formulas is the one my son went for!! the trainer is good - i can vouch for that. no surprise that got this kind of service now. nowadays there are more and more reports of children breaking down or have discipline problem in ns. there was a recent report about ns boys being jailed because they drive saf cars around without licence?

can swim out of tekong, means this guy must be quite fit, or at least had good swim lessons before – so he should likely not be suffering too badly in terms of the physical demands of BMT (you can be sure that there are softies who are in worse shape).


It is possible that he might not be able to take and adapt to the change from a civilian to a soldier (esp. a recruit). It was mentioned that the drastic change is not easy to adapt to – it is true.

If a guy has been having his way all along since young (pampered, arrogant, feared), and he turned out to have a nasty instructor in BMT, you can imagine that there is a good chance something drastic can happen.

Imagine at home you have maid(s) to ensure the whole place is sparkling clean. Then in camp you are made to clear choked toilet that if full of poo… when you have maids/parents to help pack at home, your instructor can take your drawer and other clothes from your cupboard and throw them on the floor or down the building during ‘stand by bed’. At home not happy, you walk out/away; there, you try to retaliate, you will be punished (or worse, they punish your platoon mates instead, to set everyone else against you…). You will be humbled, even humiliated.

This is one outcome (though it’s the first time). There are many other instances of the recruits snapping and firing live rounds at those who are responsible…

Well, let’s hope there is hope in this chap, and that something can be done to help him deal with the situation.

BMT was a culture shock for many of my friends. Never in their lives had they heard so much profanities. And I wouldn’t even saying it’s humbling…more like totally deprived of self esteem!! Sometimes not only u get scolded…your whole family also drawn into the picture!!


Still alot of these friends survived…even those who were still taking schoolbus during JC time!! LOL

I always remind my son not to put stuff there because they have am n pm session and things will go missing after the next session. Yes, they have lockers to keep stuff instead.

Agree. Also feel P1 is a bit too young. Especially if walking around outside on his or her own. Just my two cents worth.
