      Hi deardear07

The technician is my ex-secondary school mate husband. Their 2nd kids completed PSLE last year. Did I mention they stay within 2 km? Dont think so. Their kids wake up at 5 am & take sch bus which later they change to take public transport.

      Hi Scoobydoo

Here are the list of volunteer works that I have done or was posted to the PVGs which I can think of.

Reading buddies, librarian, traffic control, library painting, re-modelling heritage board, culture/sports day/consert help out, teacher helper for excursions, swimming class etc, creative work for Wed teachers meeting for P1&P2, tabulating data from school survey etc.
abit puzzled now...u said that ur technican fren entered RGPS in Phrase 2C? and since itz a popular school, he managed to get in even outside 2km? so lucky! 😄

EN, they gave a list of things to do and let PVs choose? hw come alot of PVs that i hear from are doing traffic warden jobs? hardly hear any librarians or the other jobs...

anyway, they do based on these jobs that u can contribute to select u?

        Hi deardear07

Hers there was no balloting. Mine has no balloting for the year that I enrolled my daughter. If I’m not mistaken, there is no balloting needed for phase 2C last year too (I might be wrong in my data). I just check the MOE website. This year the number of applicants have risen dramatically for phase 2C. Even my son school last year there are plenty of seats after phase 2C now needs balloting.

I sincerely dont know what are the basis they select the parents for PV. My suggestion is to apply early to secure a place. Once they have a minimum number of PV, they will definitely reject those that apply late. I was rejected for Henry Park. I thank god they rejected me cause that year, even the PV needs balloting.

Yes, there are long list of PV job. What happen at that time is that, we get notified via e-mail that they need eg 5 parents to assist teacher in excursion. They will specify the time, date & the number of hours required. Those who reply the earliest will get the job.

That was years ago. Not sure though if the system has change.

oh, think the fame for these schools have gone abit haywire...tatz y more and more applicants.

bt on the webby, it does state that itz nt 1st come 1st serve basis for PV. they'd consolidate and invite ppl for tea and discuss...this way, they can pick and choose only the best...?

If you feel that the fame for these schools had gone haywire, maybe you should play your part by not looking at joining in the haywiring anytime soon? 😛

The schools will choose the PV based on their 'usefulness' to the school ie what the PVs can contribute to the school...its not about the best...some may choose SAHP over FTWP as SAHP is more flexible in timing (my guess). Although PV is not entirely first come first serve, applying early may increase your chance as the later you apply the lesser choice of 'jobs' are left for the school to match you up with.

I am a RGPS parent volunteer. My gal is registering next year.I really enjoy doing the work as they have so many different activities for eg, Racial Harmony Day, Fruit and Vegetable Week etc.Currenting I am reading english and chinese storybooks to a bunch of primary 1 kids.I meet parents who come from Bishan, Tiong Bahru, Clementi or Choa Chu Kang.Initially I had my reservations about the school as I am concerned RGPS will be too stressful for my gal, but after volunteering, I see that the p1 and p2 kids are generally quite happy.Maybe the stress hasn’t kicked in yet but I think even if you were to choose a neighborhood school for your child, there will still be stress. As parents, we have to teach them how to manage the stress.

It is not true that only rich kids go to the schools in Bukit Timah, at least not for RGPS.If you are outside the 2km range, perhaps you can try to write in to PV because that will get you into Phase 2B and save you the heartache of having to ballot with the outside 2km for phase 2C.

Balloting Exercise was conducted this morning @ 8.30am. I accompanied my cousin 2 witness e ballot. Could see the tension once parents stepped into e hall. There were total 62 applicants for 55places. Not only that, there were 2 sets of twins, that makes it 4 children. Earlier phase there was also 1 set of twins so 2009 6 twins in total. When Mdm Heng (principal) announced abt e numbers of twins, all parents jaws dropped..

Numbers were called out, then put in a Fish tank like bowl. U could see yr number being stirred inside. Scary. Luckily my cousin got in.. So happy for them.. Once selected, u gotta fill in a yellow confirmation form and pay Membership $60 straightway. Haha!

Hi, I was one of the parents there. Before d day, I was really worried but this morn, we were kind of relaxed and resigned to fate  BUT when the balloting started (actually oonly 61 kids for 55 places, 1 kid not within 1 km), our hearts started to beat furiously.. luckily, my son's no was the 16th to be called, so spared us a heart attack! Sad for the unlucky 6 parents, the twins definitely took away 2 chances of balloting.

This is my happiest day and we can relaxed n enjoy the national day... 😎

 Not sure what are the plans of parents who were unfortunate...feel for them...no one wants to be in such a position...even at within 1km...
