MOE definitely needs to enforce fairness in the system.I personally know of a friend who is a PR in Singapore with no intention of what so ever to takeup citizenship making use of the system to get her kid into the desired school. She flipped her property elsewhere and with the half a mil profit in her pockets , she rented a pte ppty within 1 km of NYPS and RGPS to to register her two kids there, hearing that these two tops schools hardly need to ballot for those staying within 1 km in phase 2C- see statistics for 2010. The question if will she be staying in the rented place for the entire period the child'seducation remains to be seen. I do hope the school conducts periodic checks to ensure fairness otherwise, it will be just a case of moneytocracy whereby anyone with money to splash can get round the balloting problem. just my two cents opinion

Its quite a common practice for elite schools i should say.

So when your DH is not travelling, both of you will be staying at your own residence? So your husband doesn't stay at your mil's does he? So he can't change his IC to reflect your mil's address because that would not be the truth.

I must say we are the ones responsible to our child’s well being in their health. If one parent rented a place very near to school but do not stay near school, it’s the child who suffer on logistics. Why should MOE care? I don’t see a need for MOE to interfer the interest here.

MOE's not worried about the well-being of the kid. The issue here is that priority is given to kids who live within 1 and 2km of the school. People are abusing this priority by falsely declaring their official residences, hence depriving others of a place at popular schools.

These parents who use their rented place have gone through effort to do these arrangements and they are not guaranteed places for some popular schools… I am impressed. Its not easy to shift and make all these hassle. Its not easy for MOE to track all these cases. Parents should take the responsibility to make sure their kids are not tired to wake up very early or reach home very late after a long day at school…

Can I ask what Hdb document does the sch recognize if my nric address has not been changed to my newly bought place?

Cos based on my new address, I will be < 1km to my choice of sch but current address will be > 2km from sch.

The school only recognises address on ic. esp dad's ic as I have been made to understand. You need to ensure your ic address is new add at time of registration i.e. between June -Aug depending on which phase u r registering in.
