Yes it is really comforting to know. Thanks for sharing. I am also one who has the faith to believe.1amber:
I wonder if anyone has the connection to invite him (Heng SK) to view this forum. After all, it is a forum for all concerned parents.
Hi All... I wasn't sure whether to post this but I think I should so that the many anxious parents can feel a bit better.
I am one of those who still has faith in our government. If the government is aware of the problem, it will do its best to fix it. AND it has the brains to fix it. The scary thing is that many a times, the government doesn't KNOW that common people have a problem because so many high level bureaucrats and MPs are sheltered from the issues that plague the commonfolk. But in this case, there seems to be a sincere attempt to understand these issues...
So, Mommies and Daddies... don't worry. MOE has been reading this thread... continues to monitor it... and is starting to do some things about what we say here.

Orange guide book as in the upper block science guide?Thank you Chenonceau, ksi ! I see HOPE !
linden2000, re: Science - yes, we get notes. Type-written, point form, summarised notes. However, nothing you can't get from our trusted PSLE orange guide book. Ours also neighbourhood school.
On a separate note, if there are comprehensive notes given out by some schools (popular schools I suppose?) and not others then would think indeed it is not a level playing field for all kids, especially the disadvantaged ones. For instance, those whose schools do not give notes and have parents who are uneducated thus unable to source for the relevant assessment books. Would think rewriting the school textbooks to incorporate such notes to provide adequate info for all kids to tackle exams is important to level the field. -
Absolutely agree.
Sorry for off-topic :

My dd comes from a very low-profile, unpopular neighbourhood school. Her teachers gave comprehensive good notes. So it's not true that popular schs give good notes and neighbourhood sch don't.

That's SUPER TRUE...teachers from low-profile schools will compile good compos to give the students, NOT the popular schools. A friend showed me the 2 EL compo books compiled by the teachers...I'm very impressed with the effort put in. The teachers are GREAT.

Hence, the points we can conclude are that some schools give out notes, some schools give out "good" notes, some schools NO notes, and NOT all schools order assessment books. Hence, the unlevel playing field is evident and a need to re-write textbooks.

In a nutshell, I hope the minister reviews the PRESENT education system SOON, so that primary school kids will enjoy childhood...also give us textbooks which provide information to what will be tested in exams. -
