      titank:
      Hi All,

[color=blue]Anyone have any feedback to share on the following BASC's where maybe need to put my DS when he would be P1 at RMPS. Heard the following BASC mainly serve those students from CHIJ (Kellock) & RMPS.

      Sasco Child Care Centre
      Address: 102, Bukit Purmei Road, #01 - 78, Singapore 090102
      Contact Number: +65 62785558
      Fax: +65 62700995

      Hi titank :
I live v near to Sasco CC and previously \"scrutinized\" the facility šŸ˜‰
They charge $270 for before-care and there is suppose to be 1 tamil teacher specifically incharge of the P1/P2 groups in the morning.

      Pros :
      - classrooms are clean and neat
      - toilets are without unpleasant odour
      - lunch menu simple - standard (12pm for before school care)
      - pte tutors are allowed to be engaged by the parents after centre approval
      - few P1/P2 headcount at the moment (last was told 5-6kids)
      - teacher personally SEND & FETCH RMPS students to the school šŸ™‚
      (*save on bus fees)
      - nice, neat playground nearby for occassional outdoor activity

      Cons :
      - children \"check-in\" at the Kindergarten side 7-10am, cz the teacher incharge comess in fr abt 10am, afterwhich they will follow her to the student-care side.
      - teacher incharge hardly seen with the students
(during all the times that i spent \"observing\" the centre, 3-4 kids were left on their own running around the classroom or playing ball in the aircon room unsupervised)
      - 1 aunty and/or 1 other adult are ALWAYS seen busying themselves in the kitchen, wonder why...
      (went there at 9am, 10am, 11am, 11.30am, same scenario)
      - 1 toilet bowl : not in cubicle, just curtains for the kid to pull around it when doing big or small business :!:
      - bathrooms are also \"open\" concept, at the side
      - children expected to bath on their own (even the P1s)

I am not aware of the situations in the afternoon.

Again, the above are purely personal observations as I am v cautious abt childcare standards.
Hope other parents could provide a different perspective. šŸ™‚
      Sorry so long winded...

        Hi Bakugan,

Thanks for your valuable information. Tamil Teacher in charge of P1/P2?
Seem like no supervision in managing the childcare centre? I can understand that at P1 the child need to bathe on thier own as in order to be more independent.

Anyway still in evaluation stage to see whether to put DS in BASC.
Would consider to checkout more on Cherie Hearts.
Understand that PCF Telok Blangah also have but have to pay extra school bus to reach Radin Mas Primary.
        :x

          Hi titank :
Actually if u do the math...
Other BASC charge $270-300, PCF telok blangah charges $225+bus (2way)$65 = $290. Which is still pretty much within the price band šŸ™‚
There were 1 or 2 students from Radin Mas and 1 from GESP when I was there.

For the benefit of parents interested...
I'm v inclined to PCF telok blangah cz I hv a v gd impression of the way the principal and the teacher I/C run the centre.
          - v clean big environment
          - seperate girls and boys bathroom/toilets, clean
          - students seperated by grades (P1,2,3,4 etc)
          - teacher I/C was seen supervising and teaching the students in class
          - principal openly offer that i stay to checkout their lunch food
(some schools can't wait to shoo me out of the place)
          - children smiling as they greet their teachers and well behaved
x far away from most schools except Blangah Rise Pri 😐

          Hi insider :
Thanks for the list! I'm calling each one of them tomorrow

oh titank, actually since yr kid is in RMPS, which is afternoon session for P1 and P2, the cost is even lower...

            BASC $190 + bus $65 = $255 only šŸ˜‰

              insider:
For me, I don't quite like such question (very strong 'elite' smell), but from sales point of view, have to whip out all the 'branded' school names of the student care children in the centre.

              I fully agree. :x
During my search for BASC, I come across certain centres who specifically \"boast\" that they hv mostly students from \"xxxx\" school, just to show me that the (implied elite) parents are v confident abt their childcare ability.

On the otherhand, i witnessed scorning parents who are the ones šŸ˜› asking the BASC centres if they hv alot of \"neighbourhood\" schoolkids in their care. 😐 and then rethinking their choice of the centre.

                Hi insider,

How can we check the qualifications for the Principal & Teachers? Are they require to have some form of minimum qualification like Diploma in Childcare?

Maybe I really need to look at the 2 BASC which is located at Bukit Purmei. The PCF Telok Blangah Radin Mas also have given me during my registration.

                      insider:
There is a Cert in Student Care though I know there are very few people having this in the market. Not that this is a very qualified cert but if a teacher does not have some minimal good O Level results to begin with, then at least must have this cert.

When I recruit BASC teachers, need to have decent O Level results (at least be good in Eng and Maths (at least B4) else difficult to coach those pr students) and best to have A Level and when they look 'firm' on the position (sad to say this category of people usually will not stay long in the job once they have better place to go), then go for Cert in Student Care.

Older batch of Diploma in Preschool holders shy to say many of them having only 3 O levels (newer batch need to have 5 incl Eng) and these teachers I really can't put them in the BASC room else I will be plagued with calls of how to solve maths problems... (I would not say that it's their fault coz those maths questions are sometimes really tough and it takes someone more experienced to solve them).

PS: Depending on what you want. If your objective is mainly on care, then don't really have to bother about the teacher's qualification (some centres only commit supervising homework and don't commit on tuition and so when they choose teachers, they will choose someone who is responsible and caring to the kids' living needs and not really on academic). Theres no minimum requirement to be a BASC teacher afterall... (so you have to ask, speak to the teacher to hear his/her level of English, and if skin thick enough, ask the principal about the O level score of the the teacher...)
                      Hi Insider,

I think you are right where if my main concern is on care since the most they at the centre the most about 7.30am to 12pm. P1 is in the afternoon.
I doubt in the morning what can be achieve.

You mean there are some centre would can commit on tuition? DD still in Pre-Nursery so maybe would consider putting in a childcare nexy year while DS going P1.

Would be same as Bakugan go explore around the Student Care & Childcare Centre near my area. (Bukit Merah, Tiong Bahru & Telok Blangah)
