It doesn't matter \"if it creates wrong level of confidence\". Reasons:

1a) the info is for parents to buck up our children towards the main exam - PSLE, if our children falls short of expectation.
1b) for parents to short list secondary schools within the \"aggregate score\". I don't think we have a lot of time to choose schools when PSLE results are out.

2) generally speaking based on gut feel, I believe high scorers come from elite schools, so if a lot of girls get high scores, it is nothing new.

In the olden days, we have position in class and in standard. Now they don't practise it.

Thanks. Now I understand better. If parents are struggling, perhaps minimally, standard position can be given for the Prelims. Since it is the last exam in the school, the school should not fear fierce competition anymore as the competitive landscape has switched to nation-wide by then. Have you tried asking for standard position? I think aggregate scores are more sensitive as MOE may not allow them to simulate such a thing or set precedence.

I remembered the school arranged for one, but I didn't attend it.

Maybe I should rephrase my question as

Just wondering whether there are students doing foundation courses in RGPS?

I also didn't go for the briefing. But we were given a memo on explanation plus a letter suggesting what combination our child should take.

There are students doing foundation subjects (eg. Maths), but not many, I think. And it is based on a particular weak subject. Note: not foundation course = all 4 foundation subjects.

If at P5 take normal, can go to foundation in P6 if didn't do well at yr end.

Even within normal subject, say Maths, they are grouped by marks to attend class. Eg. 85+ one class, 75+ one class, 65+ one class, etc. And they can shift to next or lower grade depending on yr end result. I personally find that such \"streaming\" is better for both teachers & students.

Aggregate score is for all 4 subjects. T-Score is only for one subject. We parents want aggregate score so that we know where is our range (ie 240s, 250s, or what).

Isn’t the aggregate score and the T-score the same? T-score is based on all 4 subjects and calculated based on some statistical formulae that was displayed during the parents briefing some 3 months ago.

Calculating the aggregate score for the RGPS cohort would not really mean much as the PSLE T-score indicates the child performance in comparison with the performance of all the kids that sat for PSLE

What I learnt from Mrs John, my older girl’s form teacher 2 years ago when she took PSLE, is that the RGPS Prelim papers are pitched very closely to the PSLE exam papers in terms of level of difficulty. That will give a good indication of your child’s performance after the Prelims.

Based on my experience w/ my older girl, most of her classmates performed better in PSLE as compared to SA1 and Prelims. RGPS does not release the ranking of the girls, although you will finally find out the top 5 girls during Speech Day.

One way to gauge the performance of your girl is from the mean score of the class and the cohort. Otherwise, u may choose to speak to her form teacher.

No info on last yr's SA1. We don't need such info since different cohort.

However, info on how many students went to RGS, Nanyang, River Valley, Cresent, St. Margarets etc was given.

My girls are also in RGPS. Care to share how many studnets went to the respective school you mentioned? What I heard is around 60-70 pupils go to RGS each year. But I am more interested in other schools. Would appreciate if you could share. Tks.

I suppose your girls are not in P6 yet. There was a briefing in Mar for P6 parents where slides are shown. You can go to sch website to get the info as well.

Different subjects have different T-score. Add 4 T-scores = aggregate score.

The aim of getting aggregate score within P6 level is to know which range 240s? 250s? Comparing with the average marks of class & level does provide any insight to aggregate score.

HI carolina3sg, Reading all yr posts and others have been rather informative. Though Ive heard of T-score-- never bothered to check it out as kids only p3. and MOE makes changes every few yrs. Its not going to b long before she reaches p6. As a matter of fact, I started to worry this year when i saw her results. Shes still playful and not too serious when it comes to studying. Im afraid that shes not gonna get a school of her choice thus i was considering transfering her to an affiliated all girls sch, my grl says if i do that shes not going to study or attend that school.
