Hquek, I'm surprised to hear that Burmese maids have strong prides. All the while I thought it was Filipinos that have strong prides, which was why we have never hired a Filipina before.

Can anyone share why you chose Burmese maids over Indonesian maids? With the Indonesian government tightening the rules and setting so any unreasonable requirements, very soon I may have to opt for Burmese maids if Indon maids are scarce. Filipina seems out of the question for me, at the moment. Thanks!

Hi mummies, just wanna check - do you hand over all the money (maid's pay) to your maid, or you give her some and keep the balance for her in the bank?

I keep her money and when she needs to buy something. we will give her that certain amount. Shes ok with this agreement and she prefer me to keep in case she uses it up.

Just from my personnel experience. Burmese maid have more problems than indon. They are lazier and not that clean. Only my own opinion not to apply to all cases. I tried one Burmese after many indonbut she was lazy and like to lie. I was very nice to her as she has such an innocent face. She went out of the house without my knowledge after three days in my house. So I send her back to agent. Than she start to SMS my 10years old son and tell him not to informed me. Filippina maids are way too worldly wise and like to yak too much, including sharing personal details abt their employers to other Filippina maids. A big no-no.

Indon maids these days are also very streetsmart and demanding...and I don't know if it's coincidence or what, but most maids who committed crimes here are Indon... :nailbite:

Burmese maids are still a rather new entry here, so may be easier to teach and train. But their learning curve is steep, so employers got to have alot of tolerance and patience.

But I believe in no time, the burmese maids here will also be influenced by the filippinas and Indons and become streetsmart, worldly wise and demanding of their employers...

Thanks for sharing, Angelight. What you said is so so true.... Haiz, I guess different country of origin maids come with their own set of problems and we've just got to weigh the pros and cons and see which is a better choice for our family or current situation. Got maid headache, no maid also headache.... :frustrated:

I can't do without a maid as we need her to do the household chores and cook. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that my current Indon will renew her contract next year. :xedfingers:

Well, I ve taken 3 nationalities and feel that all three have different set of problems… to me its more individual and to what extend of problems that I can accept.

Yes, I definitely agree that Burmese maids have a lot of pride. All my 4 had difficulties learning as they feel that they know more than us and never felt that they were wrong when they damaged and break things in the house. No Sorry!

The burmese come from third world country, sure to have problems in attitude unless burmese is obedient but not many are and alot are stubborn. Mine break a lot of things and not honest to admit, very stubborn!! Never say sorry unless told to, still wont say.

I see many dont finish even one year, loan not over also send back.

They not only do not say sorry when did wrongs or damaged employer's things, but also won't say 'thank you' when employer nice to them.


I brought my Burmese maid to Peninsula Plaza to remit money. Cos it's her first time remit money and she not familiar in spore so DH and I drove her there and I even waited with her until the shop opens. Yet not even a 'thank you' from her. :roll: Maybe she thinks it's her rights that I shld do all these for her.
