Today was dd's oral. Said she was more nervous than usual (because it was the real thing mah) ...When she was called up...she walked towards the 2 examiners..mind was gablah, hands cold...she then mumbled her number, stood rooted for awhile and forgot to ask \"May I sit down\". Examiner then said \"you may sit down\" and automatically she added \"May I sit down?\", then realised her mistake - aiyoh, she said she felt so foolish...! So funny...

My daughter was quite unlucky to get a Chinese National as her MT Oral Examiner. Surely, their standard/expectation is much higher.

Do the examiners for MT Orals converse with the kids in Chinese/Malay/Tamil, as they do in English? Or do they simply ask the children in English to respond to the picture and the guiding questions, and record the responses?

They speak to the candidates in the mother tongue language, not in English unless the child does not understand a word of the language!

One advice for future P6 parents…if your school does not simulate the "oral" practice/school test with 2 examiners, do try to carry out your own trial at home with 2 persons. The exposure would help your child lessen the anxiety of having to face 2 persons. Even we adults get nervous having to face 2 interviewers compare to facing 1 right?

            Hi,

Today MT oral picture is about Farewell Party Preparation For Teacher.

It happend that my friend's dd said the picture is a Teacher Day's Preparation.

So i wonder the teacher would give her fail in the picture conversation section? :?

Some parents also told that the picture for yesterday MT oral (Garden) is easier than today one.

            Any comment please share.

My son took the chinese oral on 21 Aug. He told me that there was a banner somewhere in the classroom that said "huan hu wang lao shi" or something like that, which means "hail or cheer" I think. So I am just thinking is there any possibility that the children could be preparing to celebrate teacher’s day with this teacher in class? Furthermore, my son thinks that its probably not a farewell party as there was no food and drinks! ha! ha!

I do that with my students. I'll ask one of the parents to sit in with me to pretend to be the examiner. & they do get extremely nervous and read too fast!

                    Hi all mums and dads

My dot also took her PSLE oral last 2 days. For the Eng oral, was fine, she said she could talk alot on the free conversation but she was upset with yesterday's chinese oral. For the picture conversation, she said that she said the wrong thing, it should be \"huan song hui\" but her first sentence was \" this pic depicts a classroom scene whereby the pupils are preparing for teachers' day celebration\". (but she only mentioned the word \"teachers' day celebration\" once throughout the whole session).

She said that she was so angry with herself. During the 5 min preparation, she saw something written on the card about \"huan song\" (farewell) but dont know why during the oral exam, she said \" teachers' day celebration\". :?
When she came home, she kept scolding herself \" So Stupid\" :x :x
Well, I console her by saying that maybe she was too nervous. She said, \" ya lor, her classmate was so nervous till her boths hands were shaking\". Anyway, she added that most of them also said the same thing \"teachers' day celebration\" except a handful of them.

It was unlucky that her turn was yesterday, becos the day before, she found out from her friend that the picture was so \"baby\", it was about \"gong yuan\" (park). Think about it, isn't it unfair to the pupils whereby the 2 oral pictures are of different level of difficulty? Wonder how the examiners grade the pupils based on 2 different topics? Hopefully, she would not be penalised too many marks for that mistake.

                      Hi Augmum,

Totally agree with you - it was not so fair lor 😢
Hopefully not too many marks were penalised on it as a lot of pupils made the same mistake. 🙏

I am not surprise that most of the children thought of teachers’ day celebration and not a farewell party. Afterall most of them i think, have never even organised such a party or seen such a party held in school for a teacher before. My son did not even understand what huan song was. Would have help alot if the words were zai jian wang lao shi… wistful thinking…
