public transport cost is also more expensive in USA than Singapore, be it train or taxi.
of course car is much cheaper to buy in USA, but carpark in the city is
Ohhhh... you compare big city... I stay in small town. Big spaces. Carparks all free. Cars very cheap and I dun even remember seeing trains at all. No subway either.
Food was cheap (huge steaks, fat salads, creamy milk) and I almost went to clothes heaven when I saw t-shirts at $2 at WalMart. We lived on one salary and saved more than in Singapore. -

Many items (exclude property price) is much more expensive in Singapore than else where. A pair of Nike shoe is double or triple the price in US. I was told. Electronic gadgets are more ex in Singapore than HK, US and many other places. Food is getting expensive too......Rivevae:
Is probably less than 2X now. Exchange rate in December was 1 to 5.9. That CCK condo is selling at around 750k now.
Property is after all an investment. Cost of living excl property (I regard these as expenses) in Singapore is abnormally :slapshead:
What has our strong S$ done to our surging consumer price index? Defying gravity?? For a country relying heavily on imported goods? :stupid:
Our public swimming pool is cheap. The expat told me.
our salary is still cheap too (though to the angmohs it's more expensive with the forex).... :frustrated: -

Most Amercians own cars. Taxi is expensive because they factor in the distance to your pick-up point and no roadside customers on the return journey. Also, it's all pre-booked unless you are in NY city. But our taxi fare is not far from US's fare these days if you take it at CBD during peak hour + on-call charge in Singapore. No matter what, nothing can hide the fact that Singapore car is still the most expensive on earth :yikes: :stompfeet:tankee:

taxi taxi taxing$$
the meter reads $17 but I paid $29…location charge, peak hour surchage, ERP…that is for 25km in Singapore … converts that to Rmb at 5.2, the Rmb 150 gets me from Pudong airport to Huai Hai Lu…40+km -

this same fare also gets me to HK airport (Lantau Island) from Kowloon on a discounted taxi (on a contrary, you get a discount when you on-call cab in HK and they come pick you up regardless where they are!!!)taxi taxi taxing$$

You can very cheap things in Wal Mart. Shavers, coffee, shoes, umbrella, clothings, wallet, sunglasses, milk, cheese, panadols, health products like vitamins etc.. (especially) etc.....
When garmen started NTUC some ~30years ago, they said this was to control the prices of our daily essential items as the \"biggest\" buyer of the country. Shouldnt they be Wal-Mart equivalent? Not at all if other supermarkets can be cheaper than them every now and then :? -
Rivevae:
Cold Storage, Giant, Guardian Pharmacy and Shop & Save all belong to same company. I've shopped at all these places and compared. NTUC tends to be cheaper leh... I find. And I get discounts with loyalty points. Maybe Sheng Siong was cheaper in the past, but not always nowadays.WeiHan:
