Hi Parents,
Could you all share about your experience of abacus learning your children have if any ? Any benefits in the abacus learning that help them in their primary school acadamic progress?
Thanks,
uicbg -
My girl is on Kumon for Maths. We didn’t put her on Abacus - but my sister’s kids did Abacus - it helps mental calculation i suppored.
I chose Kumon cos i thought it’s progressive self learning - good for instilling discipline and sense of responsibility. My girl now starting to demonstrate good mental calculation - ahead of her older cousins…
I think whichever is good to stimulate the brain - but do not mix different methods as kids do get confused - tis an advice from an educator, -

you may want to check out the ministry of education website for details on the eligibility and criteria for primary school registration.

There are different phases of registration...I assume that your daugather is Singapore citizen.
You may also want to read up on the various thread in kaisu parent forum for tips on getting into the primary school of your choice..
Here are some useful links

Based on past record, if you stay within 1-2km of the school, you will stand a better chance if you can register under Phase 2B - as a parent volunteer, grassorrt leader or even as a methodist church member. You can call up the school to enquire on the parent voulnteer scheme - please note that , depending on the year you arer registering, there is a cut off date to sign-up as a parent volunteer.
The latter phase at phase 2C is way too competitive.Don't tempt fate.
I hope this is helpful
Out of curiousity, which year are you planning to register your girl? -
Hi curiousl-ks,
Thank you for the informations.
Oh meaning stay withink 1-2KM of the school, must do as a parent volunteer, grassorrt leader or even as a methodist church member then stand more chance to get it…
I tot as long as stay within 1-2KM got the chance already…sad
My daughter next year K2, so next year need to do the registration… -
I never realise P1 registration is so stressful, until when i went through it this year...
That's why we have to be kiasu.... -
ya ya…
Now I feel the stress…
Really hope my daughter can get in cos this is the nearest school and heard the school not bad …
If she can get in, no need to worry about my son turn already… -
guess u are too late if you are considering the grassroots and the PV routes.
