LOCAL men shouldn't say women are materialistic. Some of these men want their wives to continue working to help them support the family so that they can still go for holidays, pay for mortgage on condo and change new cars.

          Yup, for selfish reasons.
There's this lady I know who has worked her whole life but doesn't have any savings... and her pay is not low.... All her salary will be pooled together with her hubby's for a very luxurious lifestyle.

I have a fren who contributed more to household expenses than her hubby. All her salary goes to the family. Reason:
          1. she's the one buying the food, groceries and household items (hubby doesn't know how to shop)
          2. she's the one paying kid's tuition fees (hubby doesn't believe in need for tuition and never coaches kids either)
          3. she's the one buying kid's needs - clothings, books, medicine, etc. (hubby doesn't know all the details)
          4. she's the one topping petrol since she uses the car to fetch kids on weekends (hubby resting at home)
          5. she's the one paying all the household bills - PUB, telephone, etc. (hubby too busy to take care of such finances)

She still ends up buying his clothings for him over festive and sales time too. I used to tell her that her hubby is one lucky fella that finds a wife who ε€’θ΄΄ him so that he can live a good life himself. He changes handphone whenever their plans allows (which works out to be about annually) and she takes over his previous one. I am like  :siao: - I think she can have a better life herself without having to go thru this.

Now, who is the materialistic one? Doesn't the man ends up better off with a wife who can subsidise his living expenses?

Actually, I am surprised that Singaporean men find Singaporean women materialistic. More often than not, the married women I know, contribute heftily to household expenses. One need only to look at the numbers of FTWMs to see this. Or if they do not work, they are frugal and careful housekeepers.

Many women I know who earn more than their husbands regret the time they cannot spend with their kids. Their husbands are also poor at childcare, and do fewer household chores than their wives. One of my friends is lucky in that her husband decided to stay home for the kids. This is fair because my friend does not have to worry about child caring AS WELL AS work.

You cannot blame women for opening their eyes wide before marriage to assess if the man they marry will be able to and willing to take up the larger share of household expenses (or stand at the ready to participate in home and children care)… so that they do not end up having to work outside and work at home as well.

This is not materialistic. It is forward looking. Fathers with daughters would also hope that their daughters lead a good life… and not be burdened with four children (coach for exams, change diapers) and bring in the sole income in some cases. I have a friend in this situation. She did not open her eyes wide before marriage and now, after marriage, she has to close both eyes.

Marry the right husband, is the key success to marriage. πŸ˜‰

Marry wrong husband, rest of the life to repent...

So open eyes wide to see.

Unfortunately... this is so true. To a certain extent though, we may our own future so it may not be so bad.
