During this year’s registration, there were balloting for those staying within 1-2km under phase 2C, but it’s balloting for those within 1 km for the years before…(no hope for anyone >1km)
think 2004 has lower birth rate than 2003, so hopefully that you still have a chance when you register, provded that the school does not reduce the no of places offered.
It’s still better to have a back-up plan. -

Because of my 6 yrs old son, I have personally spending times exploring 3G Abacus & Traditional Abacus.
After completing the 3G ABACUS instructor course, I have applied the methods to teach my son. It is very simple & easy to understand. As such, he has shown more interest in mathematics than before.
I am planning to let him take part in the INTERNATIONAL Grading Exam this coming DEC 09. If possible, I will let him take part in year 2009 competition.
Currently, I am teaching kids & parents the 3G Abacus.

Does the school conducts donation frequently? Example, the school may issue booklet (S$2 per coupon X 50 pieces) for the student to bring back home for donation? The objective may be fund raising etc. but I like to know how frequent does the school conduct such event as I was told that Fairfield may be very frequent in doing it. I have no objection so long it is not a mandatory to finish selling the coupon.
Honestly, I do not like the idea if the events are of too frequent. And also where do the students find sources for requesting people for donation? It will always end up to their immediate family members that chipping in for donation. -

uicbg, donations are part and parcel of almost every single school here in singapore… for me the guiding principle is this: what is it for?
if it is for simple things like :
- less fortunate (elderly, school pocket money fund etc etc)
- improve premises (football field, eco garden etc)
- cca activities…
then no issues… sometimes i tell my son… even if he cannot fulfill, no worries, just give it back. so far the teachers have not belittled or ridiculed him or any of his classmates for not completing the cards…

overall i believe that FMPS does not really excel in anything spectacular… maybe one or two areas…
they provide a pretty holistic approach to early education in a coed environment…
so it depends on your expectations… if you want academically excellent students… you’ll get a few… and not the whole lot… the school prepares kids for many areas of life with emphasis on honesty integrity and social concerns… -

My whole objective is just trying to find more as I was been told of the constant donations from other sources but that could be many years ago… also, It could be the wrong information that has passed down to various groups ultimatly. And I just like to know more in case anyone know the intention of the donations…
I share the same thoughts as you and would be telling the same thing to my daughter in future should she cannot fulfil the request and just return to the school. The most important thing is the morale and in case we have done our out most for the contribution, that should be sufficient and the school should not question.
I have no issue if it meant for helping the poor / sick/ or for the school premises and school pocket money fund etc as the school is partial government subsidies…
