      Hi Parents,

My DS gets into NCPS successfully. I recently got a form from his childcare asking withdrawal info including when will be his last day at childcare. I thought it will be the very last day of the year? But since they ask, I am wondering there are maybe other better arrangements. Any parents have experience on that? Many thanks!

Hi Timtim, if I can recall the previous posting, the textbk list will only distribute to us during orientation day, right? If yes, is it we hv to purchase whatever necessary textbk or assessment bk during the orientation day or can we order after the orientation day? Just imagine the tiny bookshop crammed with more than 300 parents.

I thought the booklist was given before orientation. Anyway, you will be given few days to buy, not just on that day. Also, it's not at the tiny bookshop. They will setup at another place along the corridor, somewhere near the classroom where the uniform vendor sells uniforms, to allow parents to buy books. The area is more spacious and not so cramp. The book vendor already pre-packed everything (according to P1 booklist) into a neat box. If you have nothing to add/remove, just pay, take and go. It's pretty straightforward. For me, I ask them to remove the Pic Dict, which was not required by school.

You may also order your textbook from the vendor online and collect another day. You will be given instructions to do so.

          wat is PG113 and 114?

By the way, one mummy whose kid in p1 this year told me Nan chiau chinese standard very high so i am kind of worried too. For HYPY, my DD childcare is doing a great job in teaching the Chinese and HYPY, but for HYPY not very worried. It is more of recognition of Chinese characters that are problems. Even though her childcare is doing a good job by teaching them HYPY and made them write chinese words until her chinese words from ugly to almost go for competition kind but somehow cos my girl seldom read chinese books and my girl can read very very very simple chinese books (think more suitable for toddler), still cant read slightly indepth books. I got her to read and have to ask her, u understand what they are talking about for almost every sentence, then she will start asking so what are they talking about? :faint:

i have to resort to teach her chinese words myself based on some chinese books from China.alamark now thinking if i really need to send her for enrichment class liao :skeptical:

PG113 and 114 are refering to page 113 and 114 of this thread lah!!!! Anyway, to re-cap, the kids will be split to their classes on orientation day. That will be the class your child will be in Primary 1. They will each play some games to test their phonics, Maths and HYPY. Those who were identified to be weak in their area will come out with a form. This form will suggest the parent to put the child in an enrichment class conducted over the school holidays.

On orientation day, other than buying school boys, your child's name tag will also be ready for collection. There will also be black school shoes and socks to be bought. School shoes need not get from school but u will need the school shoe laces. Per week, there will be 3 PE. So i'll suggest buying 3 sets of PE attire and 2 sets of school uniform (of course if u wash and iron daily, then can buy lesser).
Stationery wise - the usual pencils, ruler, eraser PLUS colour pencils, scissor and glue.
All the files need to be purchased including drawing block. All these will be submitted to teacher and kept.
1st week, school will cater food (need to pay to canteen vendor on orientation day) for recess and children will eat in class. Need not pack any books on 1st day, the teacher will inform which books to bring and submit to them to be kept in school.
2nd week, pri 2 buddy will bring the pri 1 kids to canteen to buy their food for a week.

Hi b2b3m4, can u recall wat food does the canteen vendor normally serve on the first wk? My dd1 is a fussy eater. I am contemplating on whether to make sandwich for her to bring on the first wk but also want her to join in with the rest. Really in dilemma.

Some parents choose to let their children go into Students Care Centre earlier to get familiarise with the life there prior to school opens. Some do it for the whole month of Dec or mid of Dec. For Polaris Junior, they will have holiday programmes, so not a bad idea. Hence for this group, they will pull out of childcare earlier. But if you enrol your kid for the NCPS Dec enrichment programmes, you will need other arrangements to bring your kid to/fro NCPS as Polaris does not handle this due to the fact that not all programmes are of the same timings and lack of staff (imagine all students are in the centre during holiday).

Maybe other parents can comment on this aspect as I try to dig my brain, but still can't remember if it was before or on orientation day. In any case, I don't feel that was a problem or very last minute so it must be ok lah. So just wait and see how it turns out. Cheers!

just to check for the Polaris student care, the teacher will walk the students to Nan Chiau from studentcare for the afternoon session or the teacher will walk the students from Nan Chiau to Studentcare for morning after school?

after what Timtim says, so the best is to get everything before orientation so as not to squeeze with so many parents. but i wonder got a separate queue if order online cos if not on orientation day, queue will be super long and imagine have to queue just to collect the books or name tags

For LIFE, you will need separate transportation to bring your kid to NCPS. They don't bring them to/from NCPS. That's the main reason I choose Polaris.
