Singapore Chinese Girls' Primary

hi,Indeed, it will be quite difficult to get into the school unless you are an old girl or stay near the school, judging from past years P1 registration trend. And the school does not offer any PV scheme.
When my daughter was 4, I called up the school to offer my services. I was advised to fill up a form, stating the kind of services that I could provide. I later talked to the school registrar and found out that unless I can offer a very specific kind of service that the school cannot get from parents of existing girls, it is very unlikely that they will enlist my help. I was advised to shift near the school. An alternative I guess is to be a grassroot leader.
Eventually, I did not register my daughter during phase 2C as there was literally no chance for girls staying outside 2km that year. However, I put her on waiting list. She was called up to sit for entrance tests sometime middle of her P1 and was selected for an interview. Subsequently, she was offered a place to enter P2. And we took it. So, this could be an alternative for you to consider if you are OK with school transfer.
I am so delighted to hear that there is a chance to get in at least at p2! Thats really good to hear! But I guess, you spent a lot paying for the tests right? And, what kind of papers did they give? SA2 kind? -

You need to pay $25 if you are Singaporean. I am not sure what test papers they give, but I understand that it is rather high standard. My daughter told me then that she has to write compo for both English and Chinese, and she was only in P1. -
scgs ends school term earlier than most primary schools as its a full school right? Do the teachers have to rush through the syllabus or they get students to stay back for supplementary classes or come back during holidays?
-
For P1 to 5, the last day of school this year is Nov/13, which is 1 week earlier than the other primary schools. For P6, it is Nov/6. I am not aware of any rush in school syllabus, at least my daughter has not complained. So far, there is also no extra lessons scheduled during school holidays or after school.

Hi Courage,
In addition to the confirmation slip stating the P1 orientation date & time, did you receive any formal invitation letter from school for the P1 orientation on 21 Nov 2009?
On the 2C balloting day, I thought I heard from the school that the school will send letter for the P1 orientation…
I am looking forward to receiving the letter but have yet to school… -
In all the 6 years my daughter has been in school, she has had classmates leave and others join, primarily due to children leaving with parents overseas. So do put your child on the waiting list early.
A note of caution though. Many things have changed in SCGS in the past few years. So it might not be accurate to look at past practices any more. One of the first things to go was accepting all old girls into Express, hence the new raising of the cut-off point, which has caused much unhappiness amongst parents. -
Hi,
Will there be a buddy system to guide the new P1 students?
Like maybe a P5 or P6 student guiding them around during recess, etc? -
Melodies:
Melodies, may have to call the school to check. For phase 1, the older sibling will be the 'messenger', any letter from the school is passed to me thru' my dd1. At the moment, I only have the pink confirmation slip.Hi Courage,
