Need help with the following questions:

2. Tom bought a vase which he decides to sell. If he sells the vase at a discount of 20%, he makes a gain of $150. If he sells it at 45% discount, he loses $325. How much did Tom pay for his vase?

Your second question is pretty similar to one question discussed in one of our earlier posts.

There are two scenarios in your question. (Terry in the old question and Tom in the new one)

The first one involves Terry selling at a discount of 20% from the usual price or marked price. In the second case, he sells at a discount of 45% from the usual price.

When the selling price of the vase is less than the usual price or marked price of the vase, a discount on the item is given.

The selling price of the vase in the two scenarios is different, only the usual price or marked price remains the same.

25% -> $150 + $325 = $475
100% -> 4 x 475 = 950 x 2 = $1900
80% -> 1900 x 8/10 = $1520
Original -> $1520 - $150 = $1370
