On leave today n took chance to go to DS's cc to have a parent teacher meeting.. as i missed the one in July as we went for BVPS open hse..


so far all is good.. DS as expected is gd wif numbers but not sight reading.. n pronunication slight problem due to short tongue.. so principal suggested he attend 'Orton Gillingham'.. but he did emphasize tat he is definitely not saying tat DS has disability problems.. but we juz haf to find a method for him to strengthen his language skills..

Anyone heard of Orton Gillingham b4? He told us tat the CC's ex supervisor is doing freelance teaching of tat now.. so ask me to check w her.. which i might do it n c how tings goes for DS..

Never heard of it before. My DS also has prononciation problem, but think it was due to too much wax in his ears. Our family doc \"washed\" his ears, so much wax came out, then he told us he could hear. Imagine all those times we scolded him becos we called him and he did not listen to us. Must be becos of the wax :rotflmao: Now he is getting better in his speech but if not, will look into the Orton Gilingham thing.

Didn’t want to use the quote… Too long lieow… I must admit I didn’t really look carefully in Singapore education system… I just go with the flow… BTW what is PC… I also agree that child that are grouped into the lower standard class will not be able to catch up without the help of external education centers as we all know that only students in the so called high standard class would be drill to obtain A and above… And that why I am paranoid now and aiming towards the not so lower standard…

As for the foundation subjects, I sort of brain wash myself that DD would not go to that stage so didn’t really thought hard about this issue… But I keep hearing friends that tell me that their kids must not be in foundation subject if not then wan tan le…

I got totally no idea wat is DSA… Please explain leh…

I agree there are many factors that led to success… But unfortunately singapore education system is very results based… If u don’t have the result, you are not able to study what u as there is the so called cut off marks… Like I am not able to get into dip in account as I need to achieve 14 points but only have 16 points so no choice have to study wat I don’t like… Whereas in Australia, it is very different… You can opt for the medical faculty even ur results is no good… But it really depend on whether u are able to graduate from that faculty… If u fail too many subjects, then you know that medical is not for u but at least u can pursue ur dreams…

The time that DD is born I am alrdy looking for ways to leave this stressful system… And again I am shock to find that I will be stuck at least for the first 6 years ask kids of true blue Singaporean of both parents are not allow to study international school unless they prove they have the intention of migrating… Haiz… My theory is if u can’t beat them, then u join them lor…
