Read that TT has the backing of Tan clan (10,000).
Was thinking… no matter what he sure offend the other 3 Tan. If TT don’t get it, they will offend the EP "Tan" big time.
Someone should come with the rhyme on Tans… -
I am most dumb I am sure. What IS the role of the President and what is the meaning of electing a person into the most dumified/puppet-tied position? (never mind, no need to answer me please!)
No meaning I find. Personally I can only make sense to myself that this is then a \"beauty-contest\"! Find one most suitable to represent Singapore to the world. This person stand up must look nice and dignified. So that all of us won't feel pai-seh. That is all. Safe-guard reserves during these financial turmoil when all going down? How?
Base on beauty-contest criteria, I know who to choose. Hubby said he will choose somebody \"interesting\". One taxi uncle told me he is not going to choose anybody at all, just cast a spoilt vote in protest....

why are union leaders voicing their endorsement of candidate? :?
shouldn't election be of individual's choice? -
think our workers unions are politically affiliated…they shd have stay out.

Yes fully agree. All the clan and unions should just remain neutral like GE. -
so this is going to be the clash of the ti-tans

Quoting from another forum....

The weight of the President's office is significant
Letter from Danny G Tan 04:46 AM Aug 12, 2011
I refer to Law Minister K Shanmugam's recent clarification on his statement that a President who commands little respect with the Prime Minister is likely to be less influential when dealing with the latter.
I do not want to comment on the complex issue of the relationship between the President and Prime Minister, but I do want to state the obvious.
A would-be Prime Minister first becomes a Member of Parliament by winning the election in his constituency.
Then, according to our Constitution Part V, 25(1), the President appoints as Prime Minister an MP who, in his judgment, has the confidence of most of the MPs. On the other hand, besides being able to pick the Prime Minister, the President - in the event of a contest - gains his position by garnering votes from the entire spectrum of Singapore voters, and not just from one constituency.
Furthermore, according to our Constitution Part V, 26(1b), if he is satisfied that the Prime Minister no longer has the respect of most of the MPs, the President has the discretion to declare the office of Prime Minister vacant. Since an Elected President's legitimacy comes from a nationwide election and he has the power to both appoint and dismiss the Prime Minister, the weight of his office vis-a-vis the Prime Ministers' is significant, to say the least. exactly ! :goodpost: -
MMM:
DITTO to above...with the endorsement, it is almost like limiting the union members & clan members to vote for their respective preferred choice --->TT. I wonder if any corporations will be independent & bold enough to endorse the other 3 \"tiTANs\"? :salute:Nebbermind:

I read somewhere that TCB & TKL all have problems securing donations and appearance engagements to stay visible to the public. TT, on the other hand appears in the papers so often that it seems the publicity and buzz generated is a 'sure-win' sign for him. :slapshead:
