Hi NYPS parents, aside from the school and Coronation Plaza, where else can we buy the uniform?

Also, does the school require students to wear school socks (ie with school badge) or any plain white socks will do?

Shoes…laced or velcro, or up to us?

As far as I know, only the shop at Coronation Plaza sells uniform & name tags, not even the school sells the uniform.

As for socks, not necessary to wear those with school logo, plain white socks will do.

School shoes can be laced or velcro, velcro is better for younger child... save them the time of tying and tripping...

My daughter wanted to wear laced because she wanted to tie her own shoe laces, but really couldn’t find one her size!! Most laced white shoes are bigger sizes… ‘’

Does anyone know how the children are assigned to different classes each year? I know they usually mix children in P1, that is, you can find both Phase 1, 2A, 2B, and 2C in each class, and that they stay the same class in P2. How do they group children by P3 onwards? My gal is in P1 now.

              Thanks!

                  Hi,

P1&P2 will be same class throughout. Then P3, there will be i think so 2 (or 3) top classes from the P2 selection. The others will be a mixture of ability for the 8 (or 7) classes. And every year they will be again mixture of the ability, same for the top classes therefore either you in or out of the top class. (in fact school don;t release which are the top 2 classes but still some parents by all mean will go dig out as they wanna to know is their child still in top class. P4 there are about 3 to 4 classes of GEP.

I find this exercise rather interesting. The admin of Nanyang really tries very hard to disguise the top classes by using different alphas for each year but ultimately I wonder if they have achieved their objective if parents die-die also must know.

Ya, those very \"on\" moms will die die find out. Cos it like in and out as some this year may be in top but next yr not so school don;t like to \"hurt\" the children. I understand the others are alloted by computer. For me, every yr different classamtes might be kind of good you get to know more friends but on the other side you might have a good friend.

Thanks for the interesting insights! I wonder how parents know there are really 1-2 top classes in P3 since it is not official (that it really exists…)?

The "rest" are allocated by computer? Is it by random assignment? Pros is that you get to meet new friends, and you are not "pigeon-holed" into a particular category (e.g. higher ability vs lower ability). The major con IMHO is that it provides a greater for challenge for teachers to teach such a "random group" of students. Ideally a mixed-ability group of students should be carefully assigned to reflect well-balanced ability, learning styles, and personality (yes, personality is also an important factor to consider!)
